Mrs. Mattie Ruth“Tissie” Goss, 81, of Lanett, AL, gained her wings into eternal rest on September 13, 2025 at her residence.
Funeral Services for Mrs. Mattie Ruth “Tissie”Goss will be held at 1:00 pm EST on Wednesday, September 24, 2025 in the sanctuary of the Mt. Hermon Baptist Church, 1601 Magnolia Road, Lanett, AL 36863 with Rev. Justin Freeman, Pastor and Elder James Truett, Eulogist.
Interment will be held in the Pine Hill Cemetery, 2235 22nd Avenue, SW, Lanett, AL 36863
Public viewing will be held on Tuesday, September 23, 2025 from 2:00 p.m. EST until 6:00 p.m. EST at the M. W. Lee Mortuary
Mattie Ruth Goss was born in Lanett, Alabama on February 21,1944 to the late Early Winston Sr., and Genie Mae Perry-Winston of Shawmut, Alabama. She departed to be with her heavenly father on Saturday September 13, 2025 at her residence.
Mattie Ruth known to others as “Tissie” was known for kindness and love for her family. She enjoyed cooking her soul food dinners, gardening and her western’s. She leaves behind a legacy of love and faith that will live on through all of those who loved her. Her memories will forever remain in the hearts of her family and friends who will cherish and miss her loud laughter, wisdom, and the many ways she loved and cared for her family. Tissie lived a life full of love, faith, faith, and service to others. She was a fixer a true empath who was always there to help her family and friends when someone was in need. Known for “whatever comes up comes out” describes her best while also being the fun and nurturer of her family.
She is preceded in death by her three babies: Lisa Ann Upshaw, Manifred Upshaw, and Tracey Upshaw; her siblings, Jessie Winston, Arrie Truett, Frances Boyd, Earl Winston, Welzey Winston, Genevieve Heard, Dorthy Thompson, Betty Ware, and Mildred Whitlow.
She is survived by her devoted husband, Willie Robert Goss; Tissie also leaves her love to her two children, William Magby ( Alvita) and Jennifer Magby; six grandchildren, Christavious Magby, Sanedria Magby, Johnvonta Magby, Jenneice Magby, Myleisha Magby, and William Magby,III; four great grandchildren, Jordan Thomas, Eyden Thomas, Peyton James, and Kaoni Dobson; one surviving brother, Lamar Winston; a host of nieces, nephews, family, and friends who have loved her throughout her journey here on earth.
