Matthew William Houston was born on August 28, 1968, in Jamaica Queens, NY, to the late Earl Kitchens and Willie Bessie Houston. He gained his wings on Tuesday, July 21, 2020 at his residence in College Park, GA.
Matthew and his brothers, the late Perry Houston and Dwayne Hill were raised in West Point, GA, where he lived a full and enjoyable life. He was educated in the Troup County School System where he attended West Point High School. As a student-athlete, he displayed his athletic abilities as a member of the Raiders baseball team and proudly wore #63 on the Raiders football team. He was also a proud member of the class of 1986.
Matthew was a long-time member of Keeney Memorial United Methodist Church, where he accepted Christ at an early age and was proud to worship with his entire family. He looked forward to 1st Sundays in September to celebrate “Homecoming” at Keeney UMC each year. He continued to worship there until his transition.
Matthew worked for a number of years in the restaurant industry at Captain D’s in LaGrange, GA and Augusta, GA. He later pursued his entrepreneurial skills with his transportation services and being a material handler where he would collect and recycle scrap metal for a living; something he enjoyed tremendously.
Becoming a father and grandfather were the happiest times in Matt’s life. He adored his only son, David and his grandchildren, Jalen and Hailey. Although he enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, watching sports was one of his favorite past-times. He was a super fan of the Georgia Bulldogs and his Atlanta Falcons. Matt was a gentle giant with a loving spirit. He was passionate about life and people. He lived his life like a king and became like a father to many, which is why he wanted to be known as “King Daddy Matt”.
Matthew was preceded in death by his parents Earl Kitchens and Willie Bessie Houston and his brother, Perry Jerome Houston.
Those who will love and cherish his memories are his caring children: David Boykins, Aaron Harris, Devante Harris, Shantika Harris and Natise Harris, Jasmine Dixon, JaMario (Winifer) Dixon and Jamelle Dixon; his beloved two granddaughters, Jalen Thomas and Hailey Thomas; his brother, Dwayne (Candace) Hill; his aunt, Martha Ward; uncles, Glenn Ward and Francis Askew, a special niece, Sarita Kemper (Michael), best friend Charles (Sandra) Huzzie and a host of other relatives, cousins, classmates and friends
