Mrs. Mae Frances Melton, age 85, of Lanett, AL, transitioned on Sunday, July 16, 2023 at EAMC-Lanier, Valley, AL.
Mae Frances Walker Melton was born to the late Henry Walker and Mae Ola Hughley on June 21, 1938, in Lanett, Alabama. She departed from this life on July 16, 2023, at (EAMC) Lanier Hospital, Valley, Alabama.
She was educated at the former Lanier High School in Lanett, Alabama.
Mae Frances was raised Baptist and immersed herself in the upbringing of her children in the church. George Melton and Mae Frances were married on January 9, 1955, and remained together for 68 years. She originally joined Ebenezer Baptist Church at an early age and later united with George at Pilgrim Baptist Church in Lanett, Alabama. She was a faithful member of the Deaconess Board and Sunday School classes. She retired from West Point Stevens after thirty-eight years of successful service.
Mae Frances leaves to cherish her memories: husband, George Melton Jr.; her daughter, Teresa Melton Lewis (Aron Sr.) Aiken, SC; her sons, George H. Melton (Sherry) LaFayette, Alabama, Dennis T. Melton, Lanett, Alabama, Steven O. Melton (Gwendella), Jonesboro, Georgia; and Rev. Dr. Ronnie Melton (Carol) Jonesboro, Georgia; eight grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; brother, Douglas Lee, Cincinnati, Ohio, sisters, Brenda Lee, Cincinnati, Ohio, Jewel Lyon, Lanett, Alabama and a host of nieces and nephews.
Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, July 22, 2023 at 11:00 a. m. ET in the sanctuary of the Pilgrim Baptist Church 420 North 12th Avenue, Lanett, AL with Rev. Dr. Frederick James, Pastor, Rev. Carla Taylor, Officiant, Rev. Dr. Ronnie Melton, Eulogist and Rev. Nannette Davens, assisting.
The family will receive friends at the church on Saturday, July 22, 2023 from 10:00 a.m. ET until the funeral hour.
Pubic viewing will be held on Friday, July 21, 2023 from 2:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. at the mortuary.
Final Arrangements entrusted to M.W. Lee Mortuary.
