In The Beginning: Linda Jean Murry Billingslea was born on February
6, 1954, in Lanett, Alabama, to the late James Willie and Mary Winters
Murry. Linda was affectionately known in her family as the life of the
party, always bringing joy, laughter, and energy wherever she went.
She was also lovingly regarded as the disciplinary aunt, offering
guidance, structure, and wisdom with a firm but caring hand.
Her Life: Linda received her education in the Lanett city school
system. She was employed with West Point Pepperell in the weaving
department, where she faithfully served for more than 20 years. Upon
the closing of the mill, she was granted the opportunity to retire.
Let My Works Speak For Me: Linda united with Pilgrim Baptist
Church under the leadership of the late Reverend W. H. Radney. A
devoted servant of the Lord, she faithfully worked with the Matron
Department and gave of her time and heart wherever needed. Linda’s
warm and welcoming spirit was most evident as she served on the
Ushers and Greeters Ministry, where her radiant smile and kind
presence touched all who entered the doors of the church. She will be
remembered for her faithfulness, compassion, and the joy she brought
to those around her.
The Family: Linda was preceded in death by her parents, and her
brothers, James Willie Murry, Jr., and Charles Edward Murry.
She leaves to cherish her memory: her siblings, Willie Lee (Roslyn)
Murry and Carolyn (Gary) Morgan, both of Lanett, Alabama, Cecil
(Laleatha Potts) Murry of LaGrange, Georgia, and Terrance Cofield,
Sr., of Lanett, Alabama. In addition, she is lovingly remembered
by her sisters-in-law, Tracey Murry of Lanett, Alabama and Agnes
Sands Billingslea of West Point, Georgia; aunt, Djuna Black; and
uncle, Lonnie D. (Marshall) Epps. Linda was also blessed with seven
nephews and ten nieces, three of whom she lovingly reared as her
own: Anthony (Karla) Murry of Mobile, Alabama, Nicholas (Kenya)
Murry, and Gary (Chriteria) Morgan, Jr., both of Lanett, Alabama.
Among her many great-nieces and great-nephews, she also nurtured
as her own Cierra, Journi, Syria’, Kace, Kyleigh, Kaisley, and Kyzer.
She will be deeply missed by a host of other relatives, as well as special
cousins, Margarette Davis and Mattie Tucker, Alice Murry; and close
friends Betty Woody, Shirley Moffett, Gloria Hill, Bernice Marbury,
