Kathey D. Joiner was born on December 30, 1960, in Five Points, Alabama, to the late Joe and Martha McCurty. Surrounded by family, Kathey departed this life peacefully on August 12, 2025 at her home in Columbus, Georgia.
As a child she attended school in Five Points, Alabama. She graduated from high school in the year 1979. Kathey loved to participate in cheerleading while in school. During her childhood, two of her favorite television shows were “3 Is Company” and “Dolly Parton.”
Kathey gave her heart to God at a young age in a family church. From that day forward her purpose in life was to please him.
Kathey displayed a passion for sewing and loved fashion. From the beginning, she radiated strength, grace, a genuine care for others, and a fierce sense of purpose that would define the life she lived.
Her first job was at M&M Shrimp Shack in Michigan. She had a passion and joy for foster care, fostering over 15 children in her home. Kathey loved to minister to the individuals at Celebrate Recovery for many years.
Kathy enjoyed shopping with her sisters. When she would go to the store it wasn’t just for her, but she would buy for others. She enjoyed traveling and went on many trips with her family.
Kathy met her high school sweetheart Robert Joiner Jr. and was joined in holy matrimony in 1981. Out of this union came four beautiful children – Robert III, Sharon, Shanae, and Michelle.
Due to her husband’s job, the family lived in Missouri and Detroit, Michigan. While in Missouri, she fellowshipped with the local Church of God, later, after moving back to Detroit, Michigan, she met Mother Green. Sis. Green introduced her to the saints in Detroit and Jackson, Michigan, where she faithfully attended. In 2006, Kathey decided to move to Georgia, where she worshipped with the Church of God in Columbus, Georgia, until God called her home. There she was a faithful choir member, Sunday school teacher, and usher.
She was preceded in death by her parents Joe and Martha McCurty, her in-laws, Thomas and Lillian Watson, and sister, Angela Gail Robinson.
She leaves to cherish her memory her children, Robert Joiner, III (Nina), Sharon Brown (Louis), Shanae, and Michelle, all of Georgia; grandchildren, Nautica Joiner, Anthony Johnson, Jacob and Isaiah Johnson, Jayda and London Joiner, Aaliyah Johnson, Ava Hardy, Dallas Joiner, Cayden Hardy, and Justin Joiner; her siblings, Eddie McCurty (Dodie), Beverlyn Jackson (Jeffery), Frederick McCurty (Cassandra), Freddie Willams (Larry), and Latanua Harris; a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, good neighbors, adopted children, and friends.
