Mrs. Julia M. “Jute” Harmon, 81, of Lanett, AL, gained her wings into eternal rest on March 25, 2024 at Diversicare Nursing and Rehab. Center, Lanett, AL.
Julia Mae Brooks Harmon, daughter of the late Henry Brooks and Izzella Brooks Felder, was born November 14, 1942 in Chambers County, AL. She peacefully departed this life on Monday March 25, 2024 at Diversicare of Lanett after a gradual decline in health.
Julia Mae confessed Jesus at an early age and joined the St. John Baptist Church, where she served faithfully until her health prevented her from serving. She was very instrumental in her children's Christian development by ensuring that they attended Sunday School and Worship on Sundays practically all the time. She served in the Ushers Ministry and was willing to work to help anybody that she could.
She received her primary and secondary education from Lanier High School. When she left school, she worked various jobs, and many years in the textile mill industry until she retired in
2008.
Julia Mae was preceded in death by her husband, York Harmon, Jr; her mother, Izzella Brooks Felder; her father, Henry Brooks; her daughter, Shelby Jean Johnson; three brothers, David,
John L, and Charlie Morgan Brooks.
She leaves to cherish her memories her son, Rev. Dr. Jack Wilson Jr. (Linda) of Columbia, SC; five grandchildren, Hunter Johnson (Kemiya) of McDonough, GA, Jetorrie Johnson of Lanett, AL, Desiree' F. Wilson of Atlanta, GA, Angelina S. Wilson and Shandriel Williams of Columbia, SC; two great grandsons, Allen M. Foster “Matt” of Lanett, AL an Hunter Jerome Johnson, McDonough, GA; one loving sister, Georgia "Punkin" Bradshaw of Atlanta, GA; one brother, Henry Lewis Brooks (Mary) of Toledo, OH; a dedicated son-in-law, Jerome Johnson of Lanett, AL; a special niece, Mary Dean Harmon; a sister-in-law, Mandy Harmon; a special person who was close in her heart,Tammy Lyons; many nieces, nephews, cousins, and a host friends.
Funeral Services for Mrs. Julia M. “Jute” Harmon will be held on Friday, April 5, 2024 at 1:00 p.m. ET in the sanctuary of the St. John Baptist Church, 820 North Cherry Drive, Lanett, AL. Visitation will be Thursday April 4th, from 2 to 6 PM at the mortuary.
Interment will follow in the St. John Cemetery, 2479 County Road 212, Lanett, AL.
