Joqulos Lamont Smith, affectionately known by many as Joq, entered eternal rest on October 13, 2025, at Wellstar West Georgia Hospice in LaGrange, Georgia. He was 51 years old.
Joqulos was born on January 29, 1974, at George H. Later Memorial Hospital in Langdale, Alabama, to Regina Smith-Lovelace and Johnny Hill. He was lovingly raised in a close-knit family and strong community known as the “Bluffton Boys”, both of which remained central to his life.
At an early age, Joqulos accepted Christ and joined Ebenezer Baptist Church, where he was baptized under the leadership of Rev. Eugene Cook. His faith laid the foundation for the values of love, strength, and loyalty that defined his life.
Joqulos was a proud graduate of Lanett High School, Class of 1992, where he excelled in both football and track and field. He was a true and dedicated Alabama Crimson Tide fan—never missing a chance to cheer on his team, screaming ROLL TIDE to the end.
He began his professional journey at Martex where he worked diligently until its closure. He later continued his career at Wooshin Ajin, before retiring due to health challenges. Despite these challenges, Joqulos found immense joy in spending time with his family and friends. He loved movies, music, and making memories with those closest to him.
Joqulos was preceded in death by his devoted father, George Lovelace; his grandparents, Aaron Smith and Mary Dell Smith, Gladys Hill Henderson and George Henry(Sr.) and Lillie Bell Thomas Lovelace; his sister, Ursula Lovelace; his special aunt, Leatrice Barnes; beloved aunts, Shirley Lovelace Kingu and Constance Smith; uncles, Aubrey Hill, Raymond Lovelace John Lovelace, along with other dear family members who welcomed him home.
He leaves behind a legacy of love and laughter in the hearts of many, including: his mother, Regina Lovelace, and father, Johnny (Gloria) Hill; his cherished son, Jaquavius Rashaad Smith; his life partner, Tuneisha Carter; his bonus children: Marquis, Jamarcus, and Destiney; his siblings: Chauncey (Annie) Smith, Ron Lovelace, Winifred Lovelace Mitchell, Johnny Jr., Johnathan, LaBarret, Twyla, Nicholas, and Tiko; his uncles: Aaron (Anita) Smith Jr., Dewey Williams and Charlie (Reiko) Williams; his aunts: Janie Winston, Janie Ransom, Penny Ward, Yvonne Mwikuta, Jennifer Copeland, Barbara Lovelace, Angelia Marshall, and Gloria Jones; his great-uncle, Schevron (Betty) Travick; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family, dear friends, and the tight-knit Bluffton community.
Joqulos will be remembered for his kind heart, his unwavering loyalty, his deep love for family, and the joy he brought into every room. Though he has departed this life, his spirit, laughter, and legacy will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.
