Mrs. Joanne Jones Jackson, affectionately known as “Mama Jo”, graced this world with her amazing presence on April 10, 1959 in West Point, Georgia. She was born to Annie Ruth Jones and Jimmie Lee Rhodes, but lovingly reared by Willie Lee and Sarah Watts, all whom preceded her in death. She departed this life on January 2, 2019 at home lovingly surrounded by her family.
She accepted Christ at an early age at Mt. Nebo Missionary Baptist Church in Cusseta Alabama.
She was educated in the West Point School System and graduated with the class of 1977, in the top of her class. She attended West Georgia Technical College (Troup Tech), H&R Block Tax School and various qualification courses to become a teacher.
Mama Jo was a “Jack of All Trades”. She was an artist, tax preparer, seamstress, and hair stylist. She began her journey to becoming a HeadStart teacher in the kitchen as a cook. In 1985 she became a teacher and taught at the Community Action For Improvement until 1998.
Joanne was preceded in death by three brothers, Jimmy Roger Jones, William Henry Jones, and Larry Joe Jones.
She leaves to cherish her memories a husband, Randy Jackson, LaGrange, GA; two sons, Terence (Donna) Jones, Jacksonville, FL, Cedric Jackson, LaGrange, GA; one daughter, Jacobie Jackson, LaGrange, GA; two sisters, Bobbie D. Jones, and Minnie J.(Greg) Trice, West Point, GA; one brother, James Morris Jones, West Point, GA; three grandchildren, Sarah, Malia, and Olivia Jones, Jacksonville, FL; an aunt, Ophelia Jones, West Point, GA; one brother-in-law, one sister-in-law, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives and friends.
A Homegoing Celebration for Mrs. Jackson will be held on Saturday, January 12, 2019 at 1:00 p.m., ET at the Bethlehem Baptist Church with the Dr. W. T. Edmondson, Pastor, Rev. Charles Trammell, Sr., Eulogist, Rev. Jerome Spence and Min. Patrick Turner, Sr., officiating.
The interment will follow in the Marseilles Cemetery.
The family will receive friends on Friday, January 11, 2019 from 6:00 p.m. until 7:0 p.m. at the M.W. Lee Mortuary.
The remains will lie in state at the church on Saturday, January 12, 2019 from 12:00(noon) until the funeral hour.
