Mr. Jarontae “Maxx” Gates, 29, of Charleston, South Carolina, formerly of Lanett, Alabama, returned to the arms of the Lord on July 5, 2026.
Ja’Rontae Antonia Gates, the son of DeMonica (Terry) Frazier and James (Nevina) Gates, was born February 18, 1997, in Chambers County Alabama. He transitioned from this earthly life on July 5, 2026.
Ja'Rontae was educated in the Chambers County, Alabama and later Charleston County Public School Systems, where he received his Diploma from Greg Mathis Charter High School.
Ja'Rontae Antonia Gates, was known as "Maxx, Tae, or Twin" to most, but a loving father to Javion and Jasiah. Ja'Rontae learned HVAC skills from working alongside his Uncle Dexter and carpentry from his Papa Walker. He was known for always being that person you could talk to, having a smile that will brighten a dark room and his humorous laugh. Maxx was always such a humble person with a lot of respect. He was an avid gamer, with many online friends of over 10 years. Ja’Rontae have so many cousins and friends that will truly miss him.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Evangale Walker and Brenda Gates, Mr. and Mrs. Benjamin, Sr.and Albertha Frazier; great grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Sr., Lelia P. Walker, Mr. Lewis Ross and Ernestine McCauley; aunts, Kathye Johnson, Denise Rowe, Mae Ruth Thomas, Mary Watson, and Ella Toomer; godmother, Deana Lasha Tolbert and cousins; Renesia Brady, Mario Ross, and Quintavious Davis.
Ja’Rontae leaves to cherish his memory his beloved sons, Javion Noelle Lee Gates and Jasiah Lamar Gates (Jazlynn Grant) his devoted mother, DeMonica (Terry) Frazier; father James (Nevina) Gates; siblings, I’breanna Woolen, Kayla Frazier, Lionel Frazier and Terry Frazier, Jr., Aneesha Gates, Jason Gates; grandfathers, Arthur Walker, Jr., James Gates Sr.; uncles, Dexter (Leslie) Walker, Desi Walker, Fred Brown, Timothy Gates, Reginald Gates, Antonio Brown; aunt, Jennifer Gates; special close cousins who he spoke to everyday, Rachel Walker, Keonta Linnen, Jasmine Walker, Josephine Walker and Jamal Gooden; best friends he considered brothers, Kelean Harley, Shawn Smith, and Jaylen Williams, and a host of loving family and friends.
