Mr. James “Mickey” Harper, Sr., 84, of Montgomery, AL, formerly of Lanett, AL, transitioned on September 23, 2024 at Baptist Hospital, Montgomery, AL.
James (Mickey) Harper Sr.
James Harper was born November 13, 1939, in Hillman Hospital, Birmingham, Alabama to the parents of the Mae Robinson Bonner and Levi Bonner. He departed this life on September 23, 2024 at Baptist Medical Center,South, Montgomery, AL.
CHURCH: He joined Love Union Baptist Church at an early age under the pastorship of Rev. E.D. Ramsey in West Point GA.
Education: James attended Harrison High School in West Point GA.
Employment: James was employed with Lancaster Moving Company for many years before relocating to NY. In NY he worked for many years as a Professional Truck Driver. Returning to the Valley he was employed with Lanett Concrete Company until he retired and became a caretaker for his paraplegia son.
Special Skills: James was an Automobile Technician. Once he put an entire car together by himself using parts and drove it from NY to GA. His passion was working on motorcycles, cars, he was an Automobile Geek.
Everyone who knew and loved James called his ‘Mickey’. He was a loving and devoted father who put his children before himself. One of the last things he said as he thought about his children was, “There’s one and there is three looking out of the window.”
One of his favorable sayings was, “10-4 and out.”
PREDECEASED: Mother and Father; Brothers, Levi Bonner, Jr., Herman Carl Ingram and one Nephew, Walter Devon Bonner
SURVIVING RELATIVES: James, Sr. has is survived by four children, daugther, Wanda Elaine Harper (NY); sons James Harper, Jr. (NY), Darren D. Harper (NY), Cedric Monte Billingslea (AL); three grandchildren, Candice Harper, Danielle Harper, and Ceddricko Fernandeze; two sisters, Letha Bonner Brooks (TX), Shirlene Bonner Sanders (GA) and one brother, Walter Lee Bonner (PA).
Public viewing for Mr. Harper will be held on Saturday, September 28, 2024 from 2:00 pm until 6:00 pm ET at the mortuary.
