Eva May Murphy Benjamin was born on May 22, 1948, to the late Mr. George Willie Murphy, Sr. and Mrs. Minnie Clyde Murphy in Troup County, Georgia. On February 1, 2026, surrounded by loved ones, God called upon His angels to usher Eva from her earthly home to life everlasting.
Eva accepted Christ as her personal Savior at an early age and united with New Mount Pleasant Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Rev. L. Z. Johnson. She later attended The Word Church, under the leadership of Reverend Michael Slaughter, Sr.
Affectionately known as “Lil Sis” to many, Eva received her education at Harrison High School. She was faithfully employed with T. J. Beall until her retirement. Lil Sis was a loving, God-fearing woman who truly enjoyed cooking, caring for her family, and her church home.
Eva was preceded in death by her husband, Sephus Benjamin; her parents, George Willie Murphy, Sr. and Minnie Clyde Murphy; and her sisters, Gladys “Bit” Johnson and Georgia Ann Stafford.
She leaves to cherish her precious memories:one daughter, Cynthia “John” Gilder, West Point, Georgia; one son, Lamar “Anita” Murphy of West Point, Georgia; four grandchildren, Doresa Gilder, Valley, Alabama, Junia, Ronicka, Jamanski “Yolanda” Flournoy; eight great-grandchildren, three of whom she helped rear: Dezaria, Ethan, and Jace; five sisters, Linda Wortham of Atlanta, Georgia, Sarah Murphy, Gail Murphy, Carolyn Murphy all of West Point, Georgia, and Sharon “Stan” Tucker, LaGrange, Georgia; two brothers, George “Gloria” Murphy, Jr., Columbus, Georgia, and Vincent “Diane” Murphy, West Point, Georgia; a devoted bonus daughter, Valerie Heard; and a host of loving nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
