Ms. Edith Melton, age 88, of Lanett , AL gained her wings into eternal rest on Friday, May 22, 2020 at her residence.
Graveside Service for Ms. Melton will be held on Friday, May 29, 2020 at 12:00: p.m( noon) in the Hillcrest Cemetery with the Dr. Frederick James, Eulogist and Rev. Frank Kennedy, Jr., assisting.
Public viewing will be held on Thursday from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. at the mortuary.
Edith, the daughter, of the late Annie (Gunn) and George Melton was born July 14, 1931 in Chambers County, AL.
At an early age, she became charter member of the Pilgrim Baptist Church under the pastoral leadership of Rev. O. D. Slaughter. Her involvements at Pilgrim were with the Missionary Society and the Culinary Art Committee.
She attended Lanier High School, Lanett, AL.
Edith was employed by Playtex, Inc. until its closing . She later became the care taker for many families and individuals throughout the area.
She was predeceased by her parents, Annie and George Melton; a son, Bernard Melton, sisters, Catherine Strong, Dorothy Melton, and Annie Tibbs; two brothers, Otis Melton and Willie Melton; brother-in law, Horace (Big Boy) Tibbs; sister-in law, Corine Melton; granddaughter, Aries Sands; niece, Sandra Autry; and nephew, Frank Strong, Jr.
She leaves to cherish her memories three daughters, Elizabeth Melton, Sylvia Sands, and Felicia Melton; sister, Emma Elie; brother, George (Mary Francis) Melton Jr.; grandchildren, Sandricka (Melvin) Mosley; Jevon (LaShonda) Sands; Dereke (Jerzundas) Melton; great grandchildren, Zahdai (Cookie) Mosley (whom she raised from six weeks old), Zachaeus Mosley, Keavis Sands, Zion Lynch, Jabarious Lynch, Zaven Lynch, Anastasia Sands, Jamonya Sands, Aneres Sands, Isaiah Green, Na’shawn Sands, Alaina Sands, Kayden Melton, and Jahzara Melton; great-great grandson, Zahir Lynch; God Daughters, Dillie Mitchell, Michelle Magby, and Mary (Marvin) Reese; special cousin, that was reared with her as a sister, Melissa Luck; special friends, Lottie Ferrell and Luneda Billingslea; adopted family, Rev. Frank Kennedy, Jr., Denise Kennedy, Cierro Kennedy, and LaChastity (Michael) Hill and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends.

I am so sorry to hear the passing of Ms. Edith. It's been years since I have seen her. She was a sweet lady.to the family u have my sympathy.
Sorry to mourn the death of our neighbor, friend and Sister in Christ. We will remember and cherish the Acts of love and kindness that she expressed and exemplified. It was a joy to know her and be in her presence.
