Mr. David Wilks, 88, of Atlanta, GA, formerly of Lanett, AL, gained his wings
into eternal rest on August 17, 2024 at his residence.
DAVID LEE WILKS was born on July 31, 1936, in Chambers County,
AL, to the late Mr. David and Sadie G. Floyd Wilks. He departed this life
on Saturday, August 17, 2024, at his residence in Atlanta, GA.
From an early age, David came to know God and embraced the promise
of Everlasting Life. He joined St. James Missionary Baptist Church,
where he nurtured his faith and built a strong spiritual foundation.
In 1954, David met Elizabeth Holloway, the love of his life. After a
lengthy courtship, they married in 1955 and shared 38 wonderful years
until her passing on August 24, 1993.
Known affectionately as “Cool Breeze” by many, David was a
hardworking man whose career began at the C.V. Railroad. After
moving to Atlanta, GA, he continued his work with Roger Bridge
Construction and eventually joined Local 438. David dedicated 35 years
to Gay Construction Company before retiring. His beautiful smile and
love for singing and dancing left a lasting impression on everyone who
knew him.
David was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Elizabeth; parents,
David and Sadie G. Floyd Wilks; twin brother, Dosia; and sisters,
Parthenia White, Effie English, and Dorothy McClure.
David leaves behind cherished memories with his loving and caring
family: daughters, Patricia Floyd of Atlanta, GA, and Annette (Sidney)
Smith of Compton, CA; son, Eddie (Renette) Huguley of Rancho
Cucamonga, CA; siblings, Vivian Rhodes, Linda (Gregory) Peterson
of Lanett, AL, Sadie Holloway of Atlanta, GA, and Joe Willie Floyd
of Cincinnati, OH; grandchildren, Belinda Huguley, Brenda Floyd,
Jennifer Clyde, Jacqueline Arceneaux, Denisha Huguley, Terrill Smith,
Jessica Smith, and Johnathan Smith; 16 great-grandchildren, 17 greatgreat-grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends
Funeral Services for Mr. Wilks will be held on Saturday, August 31, 2024 at 1:00 p.m. ET in the sanctuary of the St. James Baptist Church, 3028 31st Street, SW, Lanett, AL 36863.
Interment will follow in the Pine Hill Cemetery, 2235 22nd Avenue, SW, Lanett, AL.
Public viewing held on Friday, August 30, 2024 from 2:00 p.m. ET until 6:00 p.m. at the mortuary.

I'm not sad that you passed away because God only loaned you to us, I am sad because I didn't visit you since being grown, even when I was just living in Lithonia or just in Atlanta. But my love for you was/is always true. I'm glad you're not longer suffering and you can reunite with your parents, siblings, and auntie Elizabeth. Rest easy
