Brenda Rose Adams Wise was the second borne child of Marguerite Winston Adams and Raymond Adams, Sr. Her mother introduced her to the piano at the age of five or six, and she began a rigorous classical training schedule. Her music career spans greater than sixty years teaching scores of pianists, directing choirs, playing events and as Minister of Music in many churches in her life. She was extremely proud of her CME roots, and often bragged that She was educated in the Atlanta Public Schools, and later attended Morris Brown College and Georgia State University. Brenda always sought peace, and was always guarded in the interest of self-respect. She wouldn’t touch the piano until the congregation was prepared to receive her .
She had a thirty-year career in federal service, spending the last twenty-three of them as an agent of the Department of the Treasury from which she retired at the age of 52. It was a job and a steady reliable source of income and benefits, but she never enjoyed that work. Her real work that gave her real joy was on that piano, and the work she did in the church. She was a member of Emanuel Chapel CME Church of West Point, Georgia, where she served as Steward, Treasurer, and Director of Christian Education. She was licensed to exhort by the CME Church in October 2006, and she put that credential to work for God as often as asked to do so. She never turned down an opportunity to stand before a church and proclaim the truth and goodness of the Lord. She was elected as delegate to the Missionary Quadrennial by the Annual Conference of the CME church many times over the years. She served as West Georgia Regional Missionary Vice President for her beloved Missionary Society— a great joy in her life. She was mother of four sons, the late Derrick Myrick, Terence(Paula) Wise, Carlos (Desonuia)Wise, and Alejandro (Sonja)Wise; her brother and sister, Raymond Edward Adams, Jr. and Pamela Adams Curtis, who preceded her in death; her new sisters, Mrs. Emily Reed, Mrs. Bobbie Jane Wise Wilson, and Mrs. Emma Adams encircled her in her life. She had a crew, too: Mrs. Pauline Jones, Mrs. Ola Adams, Mrs. Thelma Hunter, and Mrs. Diane Davidson. She was the doting grandmother of nine, and great-grandmother of twelve. Carlos, I truly empathize with you in this long moment. I hope and pray that you and your family stay sustained, by each other and by faith.
When my mom passed almost 30 years ago, a man far "wiser" than his years penned the following words to me. I have remembered and shared them with others many, many times over the years:
"The passing of a noble mother may be likened to the melting of a candle. Her self-sacrifice yields a lighted space." C. R. Wise
Much love and best always to you and your family, brother,
Patrick Harper
