Apostle Melvin Allen Cartwright, a faithful servant of God, devoted husband, father, grandfather, and visionary leader, entered eternal rest on July 3, 2025, at the age of 72.
Melvin Cartwright was born in East Texas on June 15, 1953. Later, he moved to Houston, Texas with his mother, Dorothy Fuller Tryon and father, Alfred Tryon. Together they ensured he was grounded in a strong spiritual foundation both at home and at The Fourth Missionary Baptist Church in Houston under Pastor E. Stanley Branch. As a youth, he was the lead singer of the Young Male Chorus and Youth Choir. Melvin also served as a youth leader in the Baptist Training Union.
Melvin Cartwright attended Jack Yates High School and graduated from Austin High School. After graduating, he enlisted in the United States Army and was later stationed at Fort McClellan in Anniston, Alabama. While there, he met the love of his life, Jackquline Ross. The Lord divinely revealed to Jackquline that Melvin would be her husband. In January 1975, they were united in holy matrimony. Together they shared 50 years of marriage until her passing in April 2025. Their union was blessed with four children.
Melvin Cartwright accepted his call to ministry in 1977 under the mentorship of Pastor Ruby Blackwell of Miracle Revival Temple. In 1989, he founded Faith Mission, later renamed Eagle’s Nest Cathedral, a ministry birthed through prayer and obedience to God’s voice. With prophetic insight and a shepherd’s heart, he impacted countless lives. Together with his wife, they built a thriving congregation where worship, healing, and deliverance flowed freely.
A lifelong learner and student of God’s Word, Apostle Cartwright pursued spiritual and academic growth, earning:
• Certificate of Ordination – March 1991
• Bishop Certificate of Consecration – May 2000
• Certificate of Completion – March 2002
• Leadership Course Diploma – July 2003
• Joint College of African American Pentecostal Bishops Certificate of Completion – March 2005
• Honorary Doctorate of Divinity – March 2006
• Consecration as Apostle – May 2010
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Jackquline Cartwright (2025)of Lanett, Alabama; his mother, Dorothy Tryon (2023) of Houston Texas, and his sister, Grace Cartwright (2025) of Los Angeles, California.
He leaves behind to cherish his memories his devoted children, Thea, Natasha, Angela, and Charles Cartwright; his grandchildren, Matthew Cartwright(Amaya) and Gabriel Cartwright; great grandchildren, Genesis and Josiah Cartwright; his father, Pastor Alfred Tryon of Houston, Texas; three loving sisters, Diane Irvine (Chester) of Call, Texas, Gwendolyn Ross of Houston, Texas, and Melanie Winston (Victor) of Jacksonville, Florida. He also leaves behind adopted daughters, sons, and granddaughters who were dear to his heart; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, spiritual sons and daughters, and friends.
Apostle Cartwright’s life was a testimony of God’s power, grace, and unfailing love. His legacy of faith, family, and ministry will continue to inspire generations to come.
