Mr. Robert T. (Bob) Johnson 85, of Ridge Grove, Alabama died Friday, February 1, 2019 at his residence of 30 years.
Mr. Johnson was born in Fort Benning, Georgia July 28, 1933 to the late Robert Guy Johnson and the late Fannie Beatrice Coggins Johnson. Bob was raised in LaFayette, Alabama where he graduated from LaFayette High School, and married his high school sweetheart Wylodine (Dena) Clanton. He then moved to Auburn, Alabama where he attended Auburn University and earned a degree from the school of Agriculture. Bob joined the U.S. Department of Agriculture that began a 33 year career of service that took him to New York, Miami, Florida, Chile, New Orleans, La., and Atlanta, Georgia, he then retired at 55 years of age and began his second career that consisted of farming, cows, catfish, and vegetables, he was known as the matoman. In his free time Bob continued his public service by serving two terms on the Chambers County Board of Education, and most recently a board member to the East Alabama Water and Sewer Board. He was also actively involved in the Chambers County Democratic Party and the Ridge Grove Fire Department. He dearly loved spending time with his family and friends, telling tall tales, listening to all kinds of music and reading the plethora of books he kept on hand.
Funeral services will be held Monday, February 4, 2019 at 12 Noon at Jeff Jones Funeral Home with the Rev. Jimmy Allen officiating with burial to follow at the LaFayette City Cemetery. Visitation will be held Monday from 11AM until 12 Noon prior to the service.
He is survived by his Wife of 64 years Margaret Wylodine (Dena) Johnson of Ridge Grove, Al., 2 Daughters Diana (Kenneth E.) Pearson of Little Rock, Ark., Amy (Robert A.) Yerkey of Ridge Grove, Al., Son Robert C. (Myra M.) Johnson of Opelika, Al., 4 Grandchildren Carri H. Johnson of Savannah, Ga., Taylor D. Pearson of Little Rock, Ark., Zachary K. Pearson of Walla Walla, Washington, Anna Faith E. Pearson of Fayetteville, Ark., He was preceded in death by his Parents and his Daughter Lisa Johnson.
In lieu of flowers memorial gifts can be made to the East Alabama Food Bank or the Chambers County Museum located in LaFayette.
