It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved father, James Harold White, on April 12, 2025, at the age of 90. Born on September 5, 1934, Harold lived a life marked by quiet strength, unwavering faith, and deep love for his family and community. Known affectionately by many as Daddy, Granddaddy, Uncle Harold, or simply Harold, he leaves behind a lasting legacy.
He was preceded in death by his cherished wife of 59 years, Ellen Owen White; his parents, Bertha and Fannie Bell White; brothers, Wilson, Junior, and Royce White; sisters, Gayle Pyles, Clara Nell Mickle, and Zelma Lamb; grandson, Gabriel Gillespie; and son-in-law, Tim Gillespie.
Harold is survived by his loving children:
Tim White of LaFayette, AL
David (Diane) White of LaFayette, AL
Cammie (Paul) Hester of LaFayette, AL
Steve (Kristin) White of Sharpsburg, GA
Stephanie Gillespie of Knoxville, TN
He is also survived by eleven grandchildren:
Crystal (Scotty) Rushton, Ryan (Liz) White, Haley White, Zack (Amber) Hester, Hannah Bunn, Carter White, Nate Gillespie, Luke White, Caroline White, Jake Gillespie, and Anna Claire White.
His legacy continues through his great-grandchildren: Kobe and Klayton Rushton, David and Camp White, Bentley and Baylor Hester, Owen and Oakley Sanders, and one treasured great-great-grandchild, Ada Grace Rushton.
He also leaves behind a brother: Larry (Mary) White of Opelika AL, many beloved nieces and nephews and their families. Among them, Brenda Murray and her son, Ronald, who lived directly below him, held a particularly special place in his heart. Ronald, who lovingly referred to him as their precious Uncle Harold, often checked in on him, as did Brenda. Their constant care and presence meant the world to him. The family would like to extend a special thank you to both of them as he loved them dearly.
Harold began his lifelong career at Tallapoosa River Electric Cooperative (TREC) in 1956 extending 40 years retiring in 1996. He started as a lineman and working his way up to foreman through unmatched dedication and skill. TREC was more than a workplace, it was a second home. He formed close bonds with many, especially Mr. Herman Hand and Mr. Frank Burton, and was respected for his impeccable work ethic and steady leadership.
Within the LaFayette community, Harold was also known for his years of service as a LaFayette Little League umpire, recognized for his distinct and enthusiastic strike calls that brought smiles to many.
A man of deep faith, Harold was a devoted member of LaFayette Heights Baptist Church, faithfully attending both morning and evening services in his later years. His love for the Lord and his church family grew deeper with time and remained steadfast throughout his life.
Harold also had a passion for his home, taking exceptional pride in his yard. He was well known for maintaining a beautifully kept lawn, which stood as a reflection of the love and care he poured into everything he did.
A visitation will be held on Wednesday, April 16, 2025, from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. at LaFayette Heights Baptist Church, followed by the funeral service at 2:30 p.m., with Reverend Dave Bearden and Reverend Paul Howard officiating. Burial will follow at LaFayette City Cemetery.
The family respectfully requests no flowers and contributions may be made to LaFayette Heights Baptist Church in his memory.
