Obituary For James Franklin Smith

Mr. James (Frank) Smith, of Oak Bowery, AL passed away peacefully at home on January 2, 2025, at the age of 94. He was born May 11, 1930, in Fort Payne, AL. He was a great outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting, fishing, and farming. He was a veteran of the United States Army and retired from Southern Companies after 31 years of service in corporate accounting. He retired to Oak Bowery with his beloved wife, Kathleen Smith. They were blessed with 54 years of marriage before her passing in 2008.

Mr. Smith is survived by his daughters and sons-in-law: Kathy (Dennis, late) Brawley, of Pell City, AL, Patricia (Larry) Belcher, of Oak Bowery, AL, Vicky (Gary) Ott of Oak Bowery, AL and Barbara (Raymond) VanTilburg of Opelika, AL.

Grandfather of nine: Jeremy Brawley, Bobby Brawley, Alan Swain, Melinda Ward, Lori Temm, Adam Belcher, Christopher Ott, Daniel VanTilburg and Holly VanTilburg.

Great-grandfather of nine: Tad Brawley, A.J. Swain, Arielle Swain, Sky Baxter, Haylee Temm, Julie Temm, Aidan Foster, Alice Crisman, and Grayson VanTilburg-Alamo.

Great-great-grandfather of one: Asher Swain.

Visitation and graveside service to be held at: Antioch Baptist Church 20130 Veterans Memorial Pkwy, La Fayette, AL 36862 on Saturday January 4th from 1:00 - 2:00 PM with the graveside service to be held immediately afterwards.
