Douglas Finley Harmon entered the Gates of Heaven on the Wings of Angels on the 2nd day of August, 2021; after a 9 year battle as a quadriplegic due to a motorcycle accident in 2012. Douglas was born September 16, 1969, in LaFayette, Alabama at Wheeler Hospital; the youngest of four siblings, to Grady Rodney Harmon and Mary Finley Harmon.
He is preceded in death by his Father, Grady Rodney Harmon, his grandparents W.G. and Laura Lee Harmon, T.R. and Hazel Finley, and Aunt and Uncle, George Kenneth and Linda W. Harmon.
He is survived by his Mother, Mary Finley Harmon, children Laura Elizabeth Harmon, Levi Finley Harmon and Brian Stewart, sisters Susan Harmon (Jerrold); Leigh Harmon Richardson (Jerry); and brother Woody Harmon (Debbie); nieces Jessica Harmon and Lacy Kilgore and nephews Blake Whitman (Cat), Thomas Harmon (Ali), and Austin Harmon (Annie), cousins Wendell (Lisa) Harmon and Alan Harmon.
Throughout the journey, Douglas never lost his wit, charm and sense of humor. He had the ability to cause havoc , while lying flat on his back. He was known to flirt openly with his female caregivers, play practical jokes and create mischief daily. He never lost sense of who he was, a determined, stubborn, hard headed, and never –take-no-for-an-answer kind of guy. He vowed to one day get up out of the bed and walk again, and never let go of that determination until the very end. Douglas had a love- hate relationship with Dr. Hiran Patel, the family will be forever grateful for his compassion, love and guidance during this period in our lives.
He had deep love for the Lord and came to accept his situation, praying that God would use him for a purpose. He loved his children and family deeply and was an avid “AUBURN FAN”. He was a skilled hunter and true outdoorsman and proudly displayed his kills from around the country and Venezuela. He traveled to South America on mission trips, along with family members and always brought out the best in bad situations. He was a life-long member of Pleasant Grove Church in Union Hill, Alabama. He was owner of Harmon Construction Company prior to the accident and he took pride in his work and employees. He was a Master Chef and was known to show up on job sites and set up a grill and cook for the whole crowd and feed the multitudes. He never met a stranger and always left you better than he found you.

Harmon was One of a Kind... I had the privilege of being his Night Nurse at Arbor Springs for about a year. He loooved: his medicine to be given 'on time,' his ice water, his Auburn Tigers & let's not forget his favorite tv shows -Ridiculousness & Friends! The time I did get to care for him, he gave the true definition of 'a fighter!'
Sincere prayers & condolences to his loved ones, family & friends.

Douglas was like a second dad to me. He and my father (Shorty) were like brothers. He was truly a blessing to be around and will go out his way to help who was in need. He will truly be missed. Love forever and always Mike.
