Obituary For Thomas Derrick

In Loving Memory

At 53 years young, he left us with a lifetime of stories and a legacy of pure kindness and generosity. He was a deeply sentimental soul with a massive heart for others and animals. It is no exaggeration to say he never met a stranger—if you crossed his path, he always tried to humbly do right by you.

He found his greatest joy in life’s simple pleasures: listening to Merle Haggard, maintaining his vehicles, tending his garden in hopes of bumper crops to share, boating on the lake with friends and just enjoying a glass of unsweetened tea on a warm afternoon. Above all, he loved remembering old times and holding onto the moments that shaped us.

He leaves behind a family that loved him fiercely—his mother, three brothers, and two sisters—alongside extended family and countless lifelong friends. Together over time, his circle experienced the full spectrum of life, walking hand-in-hand through both great joys and deep tragedies.

While the last few years brought heavy difficulties, those final struggles do not define him. We choose instead to remember his warmth, his easy laugh, and his open heart. His physical battles are over, and he is finally at peace. The memories we all share of his vibrant life and enduring friendships will live on forever.

Rest in peace. He will be missed. Turn up a country song for him today.

This is Thomas's "Tante" in NYC. Loved Thomas's sweet personality from the day he was born. We bonded over love of animals, although Im the "mean ole cat lady." Im hurting that your beautiful Blue doesn't have a home. If I lived closer, I'd be sure he was taken care of. Im sure he misses you as we all do.

I remember back in elementary school, Thomas had a stuffed piece of fabric that he named Scarfy. He even signed my yearbook "Thomas and Scarfy Derrick". Even when he was a child, he was always so nice to everyone. I spoke with him after Chris's passing and I know that took a toll on him. Still, he was always someone that everyone could feel comfortable talking to. May he rest easy now.
