Obituary For Sandra Lee Linkenheimer

Sandra Lee “Sandy” Johnston Linkenheimer, 88, passed away December 8, 2025, at Whispering Pines Personal Care Home and Gentiva Hospice in Athens, GA.

Sandy was born April 17, 1937 in New Kensington, PA, and graduated from New Kensington High School. After high school, she joined Eastern Airlines as a stewardess based in Miami, FL and flew through the late 1960’s. The main route she flew included a business route from Miami to Detroit with many stops in between the two cities all in the same day. Later in her career, Sandy worked in retail and real estate, but mostly in secretarial roles, including owning a secretarial business in Melbourne, FL in the 1980’s. In mid-life, Sandy returned to school to complete a 2-year business degree around the time her kids were also attending college classes or technical training. She enjoyed staying busy but retired fully in her early 80’s after working part-time for many years with the Salvation Army in New Kensington. Sandy enjoyed the beach and warmer weather, and moved back and forth from New Kensington to Florida throughout her life, living in Hollywood, Orlando, Melbourne and St. Petersburg, FL. She was very independent but also loved spending time with her family, reading, knitting, traveling, cooking and baking, and horticulture.

Survivors include her daughters, Dana Linkenheimer of Philadelphia, PA, and Kelli Linkenheimer LaRou (Scott) of Dacula, GA; son, Christopher Linkenheimer of Verde Valley, AZ; grandchildren, Peter LaRou, Sydney LaRou, and Levi Linkenheimer; nieces Jan (Jaime), Jodi and Jeri; five great nieces and nephews [Nick, Fiona, Danielle (Daniel), Shauna and Matthew], and other extended family. She was preceded in death by her parents Edward Robert Johnston and Florinell Viola “Tude” Boggs Johnston; and her sister Joanne Joyce Johnston McCutcheon.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Alzheimer’s Association or to your local Hospice.
