Obituary For Peter John Vogt

On Wednesday, January 18, 2023, Peter John Vogt, loving husband, father and grandfather, passed away at age 82 in Gainesville, Georgia.

Peter was born on June 16, 1940, in Queens, New York to Albert and Betty Vogt. After graduating from Jamaica High School, he served as a military police officer in the United States Army. He married his first wife Emily in 1964 and raised his daughters, Christine and Laurel, in Floral Park, New York. Peter had a career as a professional truck driver for United Parcel Service for 25 years and volunteered as a fireman with the Reliance Division of the Floral Park Fire Department. After retiring from United Parcel Service, Peter had a fulfilling career as a sales associate and trainer with agronomics companies, The Scotts Miracle-Gro Company and Lesco, Inc., until his formal retirement in 2005.

In 1987, Peter married Barbara Monsees and between them they had four daughters, Christine (Robert), Laurel (Edward), Lillian (Hans) and Anita (Craig), and five grandchildren, Jenna, Edward, Jessica, Melanie and Amanda.

Peter was known for his loving nature and sense of humor. He especially enjoyed being with children and appreciated the antics and innocence of youth. He cherished his life spent with Barbara and was the happiest in the company of his precious grandchildren, making them laugh and guiding them as they matured. He also adored his dog Penny, who was his greatest protector and friend. She was by his side for 14 years and was exceptionally loving in his final days.

Peter had a steadfast faith in God and was an active member of First Presbyterian Church of Gainesville, Georgia for many years, participating in Sunday School classes, serving as a Stephen Minister and Session member and volunteering with Meals on Wheels. Peter was a positive, energetic presence and for several years warmly and enthusiastically greeted patients as they entered Northeast Georgia Medical Center. He had a great love and pride for the United States of America and stayed abreast of current events involving our country.

Peter was preceded in death by his wife Barbara, his father Albert and mother Betty. He is survived by his children, grandchildren, brothers Henry and Ronald, and two nieces.

Peter will be greatly missed by all who knew him, but remembered always for his love, humor and kind spirit.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, March 4, 2023, at the First Presbyterian Church of Gainesville, Georgia at 10:30 a.m.
