Kathryn (Kathy) Susan Nix, 73, of Madison, Georgia, passed away peacefully on November 29, 2025, following a brief illness. She was surrounded by the love of her daughter, daughter-in-law, and grandson at her bedside.
Kathy was born on December 10, 1951, in Jacksonville, Florida. She spent her childhood in Florida before moving to Atlanta as a teenager, where she would build a life rooted in family, community, and creativity. For many years she worked as a skilled seamstress, pouring patience and artistry into her craft. She later transitioned to managing the Madison Chevron, where she was known for her warm presence and her ability to make everyone feel welcome. She eventually retired from the position, leaving behind many friendships formed along the way.
A gifted artist at heart, Kathy loved to crochet, paint, and sew, and she generously shared her handmade creations with the people she cared for. She had an openness of spirit that made strangers feel like old friends, and she carried a fierce compassion for anyone who needed help.
Kathy is survived by her daughter, Tera Green (Muriel), and her grandchildren, Dennis James Cochran and Erika Ree Cochran, who brought immense joy into her life. She shared a deeply special bond with her first niece, Wendy Lynn (Cox) Moss, whom she loved like a second daughter. She also leaves behind her sisters Mary Marlene Severson (Craig) and Roberta Anita Murray (Mike “Slim” Murray), along with a large and loving circle of nieces, nephews, and extended family.
She is preceded in death by her parents and her oldest sister, Carol Belinda Hester.
In true Kathy fashion, she did not want a funeral or visitation but instead she wanted a PARTY. A celebration of Kathy’s life will be held in the spring of 2026. Because she truly hated cold weather, her family hopes to honor her spirit in the warmth she loved so dearly. In the meantime, anyone who wishes to honor Kathy, please do so how you would like but she would love if you ate a honey bun while remembering her. The family will hold a celebration of life April 18, 2026 at the Buckhead Fire Station from noon until 2:00 pm for those who would like to gather to celebrate her memory and release butterflies in her honor. Following the service, her ashes will be returned to the sea in Jacksonville, Florida — a place she cherished as both her birthplace and her beloved ocean home.
