Obituary For Cathy Ann Scovel Newton Greenway

Cathy Ann Scovel Newton Greenway, 78, of Madison, GA,
passed away August 3, 2026, at The Madison Assisted Living in Madison,
GA.

Cathy was born on October 15, 1947, in Waterloo, IA, to Catherine Calease
Scovel and Loyd Edward Scovel. She graduated from West High School in
1965, where she played clarinet in the band, and went on to attend Gates
Business School before transferring to Upper Iowa University. Her love of
music continued throughout her life, and in later years she played the organ,
handbells, and piano. She was a proud member of the Daughters of the
American Revolution, active in the Waterloo, Iowa chapter.

Cathy began a long career with Deere & Company in 1981, working in
several departments including customer service parts and governmental sales.
She transferred from the Waterloo branch to the Atlanta branch in 1983 and
retired in 2001. In retirement, Cathy enjoyed golfing in Florida and being an
active member of her churches throughout the years. Cathy had a love for
singing - specifically hymns, baking peanut brittle and goodies for her family,
creating homemade cards, sewing, reading and completing puzzles.

Cathy had a deep love for Jesus and shared her faith with everyone she met.
In her final years, she spent every Monday morning with her Bible study
friends and led a bible study on Tuesday mornings studying God's word and
growing in faith together. She had a special place in her heart for the staff at
The Madison Assisted Living, where she loved giving advice, telling jokes,
and becoming like family to the women who cared for her. She also shared a
close and intentional bond with her granddaughters.

She is survived by her son, Shane (Mary) Newton of Madison, GA; her
daughter, Tracey (Darren) Greene of Monroe, GA; and her two
granddaughters, Riley (Sam) Teel of Auburn, AL, and Reagan (Wes)
Livingston of Savannah, GA.

Cathy was preceded in death by her husband, Edwin Robert "Bob"
Greenway; her parents, Catherine Calease Scovel and Loyd Edward Scovel;
and her infant son, Christopher Michael Newton.

A visitation will be held from 3:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m., followed by a service at
4:00 p.m., on Friday, August 7th, at Madison Methodist Church, 1091
Confederate Rd., Madison, GA.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to
The Madison Assisted Living in memory of Cathy. (150 Hancock St.)

More than anything, Cathy would want you to know that she loved you —
and that Jesus loves you, too.
