Obituary For Amy Scobey

Amy Scobey passed away peacefully on January 25, 2026, after a very brief battle with pancreatic cancer. Throughout her illness, Amy remained defined by her kindness, spirituality, love of nature—especially flowers, animals, and butterflies—and her signature appreciation for puns.

Born in Rochester, NY, on October 5, 1948, Amy grew up in Penfield with her four siblings: Skip, Louise, Paul, and Liz. After marrying John in 1971, they lived in California for ten years before returning east to be closer to family. They settled in Holley, NY, with their children, Nathan and Rachel. Holley became home for Amy as she taught 7th and 8th grade reading, became an active member of the Catholic church community, and played the viola in a local orchestra.

Amy’s deep faith led her to serve as a prayer guide, a Eucharistic minister, and a reader at Mass, as well as an active member of the Mercy Spirituality Center. She also took great joy in her "mini farm," where she spent years tending to vegetables and flowers while raising chickens, cows, ducks, geese, horses, and many other animals.

In 2023, Amy and John moved to Bishop, GA, to be near their daughter, Rachel. She named her new home "The Sanctuary," a fitting name for her final years as the house is nestled among trees and filled with birds, butterflies, and flowers.

Amy is survived by her husband, John; her daughter, Rachel, and partner, Todd; and her siblings, Skip, Louise, Paul, and Liz. She now joins her son, Nathan, her daughter-in-law, Suzette, and her best friend, Julia, in peace.

A funeral Mass will be held in the spring at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church in Hamlin, NY.
