Carter Funeral Home announces with sincere respect the transition of Mrs. Sarah Callie Lewis Miles, 101, on April 3, 2017 at Lake City Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in Rex, GA.
Mrs. Miles was born August 9, 1915 in Midway, Alabama.
Celebration of Life Services will be held Saturday, April 8, 2017 at 12:00 noon from the sanctuary of the Antioch Baptist Church, Midway, Alabama, Rev. Jimmy Avery, Pastor.
Bishop Cornell Nobles, Sr. of God's Promise Ministries, Montgomery, Alabama, will deliver the eulogy.
Interment will follow in the Antioch Baptist Cemetery.
Mrs. Miles will lie in repose at the church one hour prior to Celebration of Life Services.
Visitation for family and friends will be held Friday, April 7, 2017 from 2:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at Carter Funeral Home.
Sarah Callie Lewis Miles began her earthly journey on August 9, 1915 in Macon GA. She was embraced with love, peace and immeasurable joy as she returned home on April 3, 2017 to the arms of her Heavenly Father.
Sarah Miles was raised and educated in Bullock County. She was the eighth of twelve children born to James Lewis and Eddie Lee Ivery Lewis, who preceded her in death.
She is preceded in death by all her siblings and five children: Verdell Miles, Willie Miles Sr, Clarence Miles Sr, Queen Miles and Lonnie Bell Woods.
She accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized at Mt. Coney Baptist Church. Later, she joined Antioch Baptist Church and was very active in various church auxiliaries throughout her life.
She met and married the late Rev. Arthur Glenn and to this union three children were born. Later in life she met and married the late Deacon Grover Miles Sr and to this union two children were born. Through this union she gained seven additional children and loved them as if they were her own.
She leaves behind an eternal love for her children: Victoria (Walter) McClain, Opa Locka, FL, Penola (Cleveland) Massie, Miami, FL, Robert (Dolores) Glenn, St. Louis, MO, AC (Clara) Miles, Grover (Darlene) Miles Jr., Chicago, IL, Roosevelt (JoAnn) Miles Sr. and Eddie Lee (Dorothy) Miles Sr., Atlanta, GA, one sister-inlaw Velma Haslam, one son-in-law Ellis Woods, one daughterin- law Gertrude Miles, devoted granddaughter, Marshani Miles, Atlanta, Ga and special nieces Leila Joe Downing and Valencia Turner, a special friend, Mary King, Midway, AL She also leaves behind to cherish her memory many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
