Roy Lee Dennis was born a deaf mute to the late Nat and Viola Dennis on September 26, 1938.
At an early age, he attended the family’s home church, Mt. Cannan Missionary Baptist Church. Roy enjoyed taking long walks, riding horses, building fences, picking fruit and berries, gathering nuts, traveling, working and helping others. Even though he could not hear or talk, Roy enjoyed meeting new people and becoming their friend. He had a great memory and he loved his family. Roy’s sister, Lamettra Dennis, became his primary caregiver in 1980.
Roy transitioned into eternal rest Sunday, January 31, 2016 at Jackson Hospital in Montgomery, AL.
He was also preceded in death by: four brothers, Clinton Dennis, Roman Dennis, Leon Dennis and Errollynn Dennis; three sisters, Daisy Dennis, Mamie Kinds and Bessie Dennis and three brothers-in-law, Peter Epps, James Ellison and Roosevelt Kinds. Roy leaves to cherish his precious memories: two loving and devoted sisters/caregivers, Lamettra Dennis and Maple Dennis, both of Union Springs, AL; loving siblings, Dollie Culver, Montgomery, AL, Clara (Eugene, Sr.) Moore, Roba, AL, Fronnie Epps, Columbus, GA, Viola White, Kenny (Lena) Dennis, all of Union Springs, AL, Annie J. Snell, Tuskegee, AL and Carl (Petina Moore) Dennis, Columbus, GA; two sisters-in-law, Alice Dennis, Temple Hills, MD and Bertha Dennis, Somerset, NJ; four loving and devoted nieces, Nataoshia Dennis, Kala Dennis, Zakira Parham and Janiyah Parham, all of Union Springs, AL; four loving and devoted nephews, Marcus Culver, Chesapeake, VA, Eugene Moore, Jr., Roba, AL, Alex Dennis and Ladarius Lee, both of Union Springs, AL; other loving nieces, nephews, relatives and friends including Ms. Rosa Hicks.
