Carter Funeral Home respectfully announces the transition of Mr.Otis James Calloway, 85, of Midway, Alabama on July 6,2017.
Born June 11,1932, Mr. Calloway was a long time employee of the Bullock County Public. School System.
Celebration of Life Services will be held Saturday.July 15,2017 at 12:00 noon from the sanctuary of the Historic St. James CME Church of Midway. Rev. James C.Bernard,pastor.
Words of comfort will be delivered by Rev. Orlando Sims.
Interment will follow in the Sandtown Cemetery of Midway.
Visitation for family and friends will be held Friday, July 14,2017 from 2:00 pm until 7:00 pm at Carter Funeral Home.
Mr. Otis Calloway was born June 11, 1932 to the late Charles R. Calloway, Sr. and Daisy Lee Calloway. He was converted at an early age and joined St. James C.M.E. Church where he served faithfully as a a steward until his death.
He was united in holy matrimony to Elva Mae Burkes. To this union, 12 children were born. He dedicated his service at Merritt School as janitor for over 25 years, retiring June 1996. He departed this life July 6, 2017 at his home.
He leaves to cherish his memories: a loving and devoted wife Elva Mae Burkes Calloway; seven sons: Phillip Calloway, Ronnie Joiner, Urlee Calloway, Ricky Calloway, all of Midway, AL., James (Angela) Calloway of Union Springs, AL., Desmond Calloway and Marvin Calloway both of Opelika, AL.; five daughters: Rachel Calloway, Sharonda Calloway, Christine (Ronnie) Parker, Alieen Calloway and Patricia Calloway Parham, all of Midway, AL.; fifteen (15) grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; three sisters-in-law: Annie Bell Owens, Montgomery, AL., Berneice Burkes, Columbus GA., Darnella Mitchell, Columbus, GA.; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends; a devoted cousin: Hermetta Williams; a devoted friend: Michael Parham; good friends: Frank Goodman, Lyon West and Johnny L. Mack; a devoted neighbor: Ivan Caldwell.
