Carter Funeral Home announces the peaceful transition of Mrs. Ollie Mae Swanson Allums, (83) of Union Springs Alabama.
Mrs. Allums, transitioned into eternity on December 24, 2021, while under the watchful care of her healthcare providers at the Southern Springs Healthcare and Rehabilitation Facility. The Commemoration of Life will begin with a public visitation, Saturday, January 1, 2022, from 2:00 pm until 5:00 pm at Carter Funeral Home.
The Farewell Celebration will be held Sunday, January 2, 2022, at 2:00 pm from the Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church, Union Springs, AL. Pastor James N. Robbins, Sr. will deliver the message of comfort.
Interment will follow in the Mt. Zion Baptist Cemetery.
Mrs. Ollie Swanson Allums was born on October 21, 1938, in Union Springs, AL to the late Willie C. Swanson and Ella B. Swanson. Ollie was the fifth of seven children. She confessed to Christ at an early age joining Saint John AME Church.
After attending and graduating from Merritt High School, she married John Wesley Allums Jr. through officiating pastor Rev. Baker of Saint John AME Church in Union Springs, AL. After marriage, they both relocated to Linden, New Jersey before permanently settling in Union Springs, AL in 1972.
During her the remainder of her life in Union Springs, she was employed by Bullock County Hospital, Diversified Products of Opelika, AL, Southern Springs Nursing Home, and the Bullock County Library. Upon her return to Union Springs, Ollie joined Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Reverend Battle where she served the rest of her years as a Deaconess and faithful member of the choir.
Ollie was also preceded in death by three of her siblings Annie Kate Swanson, Willie O. Swanson, and Clarence (Dorothy) Swanson She leaves a permanent remembrance of her love to her husband of sixty four years John Wesley Allums Jr.; their five children, Ruthie (Jesse) Rankins, John (Edith) Allums, Mary (James) Neely, Andrea J. Allums, and Benjamin F. Allums; sixteen grandchildren: Jahmod Allums, Orlandria “Precious” Jones, Jaylon Rankins, Corey Allums, Brittney Allums, Branden Allums, Shajuana Palmore, Jamila Neely, Brionna Neely, Shameria Young, LaToya Young, Quinton Johnson, Benjamin Allums, Isaiah Allums, Charity Allums, and Kyhler Allums her siblings, Sydney (Mary) Swanson, James P. (Callie) Swanson, and Mable (Arthur) Church She also leaves behind 14 great- grandchildren and a host of nieces/nephews, cousins, and a supportive church family and friends.
In accordance with recommended COVID-19 Protocols, all attendees are requested to utilize appropriate facial coverings, maintain social distancing, and minimize physical contact.
