Carter Funeral Home humbly announces the transition of Ms. Mary Helen Ponders, (67) of Banks, AL.
Ms. Ponders a native of Union Springs, AL transitioned into eternity August 17, 2022, in Dothan, AL.
She will always be remembered by her clients and friends as a caring Home Healthcare provider.
The Commemoration of Life will begin with a public visitation, Thursday, August 25, 2022, from 2:00 pm until 5:00 pm at Carter Funeral Home.
A Farewell Memorial Celebration for family members will be held Saturday, August 27, 2022.
Mary Helen Ponders (Suda),began her eternal rest on August 17, 2022, to be with her Lord and Savior at Southeast Medical Center in Dothan, AL. She was surrounded by family and loved ones.
Loved by her family, Mary was the youngest surviving child of the late Jessie and Lena Ponders. Mary was born March 5, 1955, in the Indian Creek Community. She was a devoted daughter and contributed to the well being of her parents until their passing. Mary was also a dedicated mother and wife. Mrs. Ponders was hardworking, loving, and funny person. She loved fishing, cooking, gardening, and spending much time with family. Fishing was where she found her peace of mind and she would get family to go out to the water with her to relax, talk and recharge. She would wake up an hour before anyone in the home to make sure the scent of breakfast would have you coming to the kitchen. Mary had a green thumb also, she could nurture plants on the brink of dying back to life, to the most beautiful you would see. She was a person you could easily talk to, and she would give you unbiased advice and enlightening words of comfort. Mary had a smile and a laugh that could brighten up the darkest room. Mary always loved to have conversations about life and talking about her Lord and Savior giving all that would listen knowledge about him and his love. She loved her sister and brothers dearly. Mary also had wonderful friendship with many people that had withstood the test of time. Mary also found purpose in helping the sick and elderly thru the home health care work she has done.
Mary was proceeded in heaven by her beloved Father Jessie P. Ponders and her mother Lena B. Ponders. Her siblings: Lula B Ponders, Alberta Ponders, Betty Jean Ponders, Annette (Robert) Clayton, Dora (Wille) Fore, Willie Clarence (Barbara) Ponders, Willie Clyde Ponders, Gus Ed Ponders, Jessie P Ponders Jr., Devoted and always sweet, Mother-in- Law Nora Holloway.
Her precious jewels left behind includes her husband Jimmy F Holloway, daughters: Cyderia L Ponders, Courtney V Ponders, and son, Justin (Rachelle) Boyd. Her beautiful sisters: Laura (Melvin) Frasier, Mattie (John) Coleman, Annie Grace Mahone, Carrie (Donnie) Youngblood. Her handsome brothers: Floyd (Teela) Ponders and Ray Charles Youngblood. Mary’s pride and joy were her grandchildren: R’reiion Cowan, Rahq’Quan Cowan, Rajan Davis, Rodney Davis Jr, JaQuacia McClaney, Robert Davis, Madison Boyd, Sydnee Davis, Grayson Boyd. Then there were her great grand a finishing touch Kreed Cowan and Draya Cowan. A great host of family, friends, and loved ones that she loved dearly.

To my little sister in law Mary. I'm going to miss you Suda. Just thinking about you now is bringing tears in my eyes. Every time we visit you you always make us feel right at home. You would always want to prepare a meal or something. You and I would talk and laugh about the good old days. I'm looking forward to of seeing you in the resurrection...you with your smiling face. To my baby sister family Justin Cuda and Bay. Mary Helen was only my sister she was like my oldest child. I took responsibility for her from the day was born. I talked to her almost every day until she fell asleep in death. I know that we will meet again in the new world where there won't be no sickness no death nor pain. I have many fond memories of visiting my Aunt "Suda" and my cousins Coody, Bay, and Justin in Alabama. Auntie always opened up her home and made us comfortable and always had something funny to say. You will be missed Auntie. But I hope to see you again, very soon, when all of your pains and sickness will be a thing of the past (Revelation 21:3,4) To my Cousins, please know that you are in my prayers and I hope that the good memories of your beautiful mother can carry you thru this painful time.

Today i know is a hard day for my cousins sorry i cannot be there to support you. Mary Helen Ponders Holloway will always be "Aunt Suda" to me. Her laugh and her favorite word "Child". It almost unbelievable that she is gone - definitely gone too soon. Only being 17 years older than me she was one of my favorite aunts. Growing up i remember all the many nights aunt suda & mom being on the phone all night sometimes i would go to bed and wake in the morning they would still be talking. I remember the summers and times we drove to Alabama to visit with her and my cousins. An opportunity for us to get to know her as our aunt and our cousins. Also, i remember an occasion she drove to Charlotte NC and took almost a whole day to get here because she was taking her time to the city when the trip should of taken only 6 hours. I can hear her right now saying "Landy". To my cousins Cyderia (Cuda) Courtney (Bay) and Justin during this difficult moment with your hearts broken i pray for you to have a sense of peace from all the fond and happy memories to make this transition easier. That those good memories will hold you. I pray for your hearts to get less heavy everyday as time go on until we meet again with Aunt Suda. I love you all. Love Landy Yolonda Frasier
