Carter Funeral Home announces the peaceful transition of Sis. Martha Ree Harris, (83) of Midway, Alabama.
Sis. Harris, transitioned into eternity, Wednesday, October 4, 2023, in Montgomery, Alabama
The Commemoration of Life will begin with a public visitation, Friday, October 13, 2023, from 2:00 pm until 5:00 pm at Carter Funeral Home.
Celebration of Life Services will be held Saturday, October 14, 2023, at 2:00 pm from the sanctuary of The Historic St. James CME Church of Midway, Alabama.
Pastor Rickey Jones will deliver the message of triumph and acceptance.
Interment will follow in the St. John AME Church Cemetery.
In accordance with recommended COVID-19 Protocols, all attendees are requested to utilize appropriate facial coverings, maintain social distancing, and minimize physical contact.
Sis. Martha Harris, A Mother, A Grandmother, A Sister, A Servant
Sis. Martha Ree Harris was born to the late Annie Mae Harris in Bullock County, Alabama on November 5, 1939.
Sis. Harris accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior at an early age and united with St. John A.M.E. Church. Sis. Harris had a deep love for God and was a very active member in the church.
She later moved to Midway, Alabama. In the 1960s, she joined St. James C.M.E. Church, where she diligently served Christ and was a member of the choir and an usher until her passing. She used her voice to edify Christ as a singer with “The Mourning Doves” and “The Five Wonders”. Sis. Harris enjoyed spending time with her daughter, son-in-law, grandchildren, sister, brother, other family members, and extended family. She had a warm, welcoming home, where she spread joy and laughter to all who entered her home.
Sis. Harris was called home to Christ on Wednesday, October 4, 2023. She was preceded in death by her mother, Annie Mae Harris; three brothers, Clyde, Joseph, and Henry Harris; one sister, Addie Bell Williams; and one sister-in-law, Bobbie Joseph Harris.
Sis. Harris leaves to cherish her memories her loving devoted daughter, Susie Donald Miles, Midway, Alabama; three grandchildren, Reginald Harris, Gray, Indiana, Charmalisia Miles, Montgomery, Alabama, and Donald Miles, Valparaiso, Indiana; one sister, Annie Ree Harris, Detroit, Michigan; one brother, Thomas Edward Harris, Union Springs, Alabama; one God-daughter, Felicia Gibbs, Midway, Alabama; three extended children, Lillian Angelean, Maple, and Eddie Bea; extended grandchildren, along with a host of beloved nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends.
