Carter Funeral Home respectfully announces the transition of Mr. James Edward Baldwin, 63, of Union Springs, Alabama. Affectionately known as Jay Bird, Mr. Baldwin passed away Friday, May 20, 2016.
Celebration of Life Services will be held Saturday, May 28, 2016 at 1:00 p.m. from the sanctuary of the Mt. Carmel Missionary Baptist Church, Simsville Community. Words of comfort will be rendered by the pastor, Rev. Jerome Anthony. Interment will follow in the Mt. Carmel Missionary Baptist Church Cemetery.
Mr. Baldwin will lie in repose on hour prior to Celebration of Life Services.
Visitation for family and friends will be held Friday, May 27, 2016 from 2:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at Carter Funeral Home.
James Edward (Jay Bird) Baldwin, a resident of the High Ridge Community, born the third child to the late Mollie Mae and Feodis Baldwin on October 05, 1952, in Bullock County, AL.
On Friday, God decided he needed to add another precious flower to his garden. At an early age, he confessed Christ and joined the Mt. Carmel Baptist Church under the leadership of Reverend E.L. Newton.
He graduated from the Bullock County Technical High School in the Inverness Community in 1970. He then moved to Passaic, New Jersey, where he met his lovely wife of 40 years. He was preceded in death by his parents and a grandson, Jacob Baldwin.
He leaves to cherish his memories, a lovely wife: Catherine H. Baldwin, two sons: James (Tanesha) Baldwin and Theotis Baldwin, both of Troy, AL; four sisters: Ida Surls, Fitzpatrick, AL; Gloria Wheeler, Union Springs, AL; Catherine (Donald) Baldwin, Union Springs, AL; and Virginia Johnson, Troy, AL; one brother: Otis G. (Aline) Baldwin, Union Springs, AL; six grandchildren: Keion, Jordan, Tre, Jemorris, Ta’niya, and Aneshia, two half-sisters: Ollie B. Strum, Rochester New York and Diana Walker, Troy, AL; four half-brothers: Joe Pritchett (preceded him in death) Anthony Conley, Montgomery, AL; Willie D. Walker and Willie Pearson, Troy, AL; six aunts: Mattie Randall, Columbus, GA; Sarah Faison, Cincinnati, OH, Jannie Manuel, Florence, AL; Jannie (Alonza) Booker, Passiac, New Jersey; Gladys and Clara Tellis, Union Springs, AL; three uncles: Thomas Tellis and Abraham Surles, and Napolean Penn, all of Union Springs, AL; a mother-in-law: Mrs. Betty Holloway, Union Springs, AL; a sister-in-law: Shirley (Rickey) Holloway, Lima, OH; two brother-in-laws: Nathaniel (Gloria) Holloway, Tennessee and Ronnie Holloway, Union Springs, AL. He has a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Special friends: Larry Johnson, Darrell Hooks and the McDonald Construction Company and Crew, Rev. Jerome Anthony and the Mt. Carmel Church Family.
