Obituary For Icephene Barker

Carter Funeral Home respectfully announces the transition of Mrs. Icephene Barker, 77, of Union Springs, Alabama. Following an extended illness, Mrs. Barker, born February 3, 1939, passed away Saturday, February 20, 2016 at her residence on Sidney Lane.

Visitation for family and friends will be held Friday, February 26, 2016 from 2:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at Carter Funeral Home. Celebration of Life Services are being planned for Saturday, February 27, 2016 at 12:00 noon from the sanctuary of the Mt. Silla Missionary Baptist Church, 409 Locke Avenue, Union Springs, Alabama. Words of comfort will be delivered by Rev. Fred Douglas, Pastor.

Interment will follow in Jackson Cemetery, Cornerstone Community, Union Springs, Alabama.

Icephene Barker was born to the late Tom Baskin and Rafinia Johnson-Baskin in Union Springs, AL on February 3, 1939. She attended different churches throughout the Bullock County Community. Later in life, she was baptized at Mt. Silla Missionary Baptist Church.

Icephene loved the Lord and being surrounded by her family and friends. She was very dedicated to taking care of her family since childhood. Before she became very ill, her favorite hobby was gardening which contributed to her being a devoted employee at the Bonnie Plant Farm most of her life.

Icephene transitioned into eternal rest February 20, 2016 Icephene will especially be missed by the "Spunk" she would get anytime her sister visited from Florida.

She was preceded in death by: her husband, Doris Barker, two children, Debra Hightower and Curtis Samuel Baskin and six siblings, Lena Mae Baskin, Amos Baskin, James Baskin, Clarence Baskin, Marie Stewart and J.W. Streeter.

Icephene leaves to cherish fond memories, her three children: a loving devoted daughter, Denise Baskin-Sanders (Jeff), Dorothy Barker and Clarence Barker, all of Union Springs, AL; five grandchildren, Juan Baskin, Montgomery, Alabama, Shanika Baskin (William), Courtney Barker, Darryl Barker and Kaoka Chambliss, all of Union Springs, AL; six great-grandchildren: Traveon McDuffie, Aaniyah and Asyiah Smith, all of Montgomery, AL; Jaquairius Jackson, Kaijun Chambliss and Jailah Jackson, all of Union Springs, AL; five siblings: Richard Baskin, Joe Youngblood, both of Union Springs, AL; Tommie Lee Baskin (Wynell), Isom Baskin, all of Fort Lauderdale, FL and Danny Baskin (Mae), Fayetteville, NC; two favorite nieces, Brenda Baskin, Phenix City, AL and Patsy Peterson, Haines City, FL; her favorite nephew, Anthony Stewart, Union Springs, AL; along with a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives including a devoted relative, Annie Calloway and several friends.

The staff of Carter Funeral Home is honored to serve the Barker family and extend to each of you a deep appreciation for the gentle support you shared with the family during the illness and subsequent demise of their loved one.
