Carter Funeral Home announces the transition of Mr. Herbert Lee McClain, 75, on January 13, 2020.
A native of the Mt, Andrew Community, Mr. McClain transitioned peacefully at his residence in Norcross, GA.
His earthly life will be celebrated with Homegoing Services Saturday January 25, 2020 at 12 noon from the Center Ridge Missionary Baptist Church of the Mt Andrew Community, Rev. D. Moore, pastor.
The eulogy will be delivered by Rev. Darnell Hall.
Interment will follow in the Center Ridge Missionary Baptist Cemetery.
Mr. McClain will lie in repose at the Church one hour prior to Celebration of Life Services.
Public visitation will be held Friday, January 24, 2020 from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm at Carter Funeral Home.
Herbert McClain, Sr., affectionally called “Jive” was born on April 5, 1944 to the late Adolph McClain and Wilma Brooks McClain in Barbour County Alabama. Herbert confessed Christ at an early age at Center Ridge Baptist Church in the Mt. Andrews Community of Midway, Alabama. Herbert spent several years in Sarasota, Florida, New Jersey, and New York, where he was employed at General Motors on the assembly line. Herbert moved to Atlanta, Georgia in 2013 to reside with his children. He remained there until he was called home to Glory.
Herbert was a very funny and outgoing person, who loved his family, and enjoyed spending time with them. Herbert lived life to its fullest, and enjoyed celebrating his birthday. He was extremely proud of all his children and wanted nothing but happiness for them.
Herbert departed this life after a long illness on Monday, January 13, 2020 in Norcross, GA.
Herbert is preceded in death by one son, Rodney Laren Gunter (Zapp), Sarasota, FL; two sisters: Renzia McClain-Hall and Annie Pearl Williams, both of East Chicago, IN; four brothers: Elevedis McClain, Hammond, IN, Aaron McClain, Miami, FL, Ezekiel McClain, Midway, AL, and Houston McClain, Sr., Sarasota, FL.
Herbert leaves to cherish his memories, five sons: Herbert L. (Rachel) McClain, Jr., Lake Hamilton, FL, Bernard (Mimi) Gunter, Columbus, GA, Calvin (Sabrina) Edwards, Virginia Beach, VA, Sayyid Sabuur, Norcross, GA, and Philip L. McClain, Newark, NJ; three daughters: Laura Gene Williams, Lakeland, FL, Selina McClain, Norcross, GA, Melinda (Thomas) Lampley-Merritt, Newark, NJ; 24 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren; four sisters: Pearline Walker, Miami, FL, Nancy A. Calloway & Dessie Mea Peterson, both of Sarasota, FL, and Betty Y. Davis, Tuskegee, AL; one brother-in-law, Donald Hall, East Chicago, IN; one sister-in-law, Myrtle N. McClain, Hammond, IN; and many beloved nephews, nieces, great-nephews and nieces, cousins, and friends.
