Faye Ann Cooke Martin was gifted into the world by our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ to the late Elmore and Katie Mae Wright Cooke on July 7, 1956. She was the youngest of six children and fully enjoyed all the perks and privileges of being the “baby” of the family. She was proceeded in death by one brother Roosevelt Cooke, Sr. and two sisters Lillie Pearl Peek and Velma West.
She joined The Mount Zion AME Church and later was baptized at Bethel Missionary Baptist Church of Tuskegee, AL and lifted her voice in the Church Choir. Faye was studious and excelled in high school and college. She was among a small elite group of African American students to be the first to integrate Montgomery County High School in Ramer, AL. She graduated Trenholm Technical College with an Associate Degree in Business Administration. She employed her skills as an Executive Assistant at Tuskegee University and the Macon County Board of Education where she served in various departments including the Superintendent’s office from which she retired in 2012 after over 31 years of service.
In 1978, she was married at a young age to the late James Martin in holy matrimony at her ancestral home church of Mount Zion AME Church. From this union, two sons were born Quincey Niguel and Courtney Derriece Martin, whom we affectionately call "The Boys". Without question, her sons were her life’s work. She was sacrificially devoted to both of them from the moment of their birth to her last days–even at her weakest, her concern for them never wavered.
Along with her Sons, she leaves to mourn two brothers, James E. Cooke (Dayton, OH); Bin-ii Ar-Razzaqq (Cincinnati, OH); three caring sisters, Doris J. (Harmon)Elder, Patricia A. Cooke (both of Fitzpatrick, AL) and Debra(Richard) Hoyt-Pledger (Atlanta, GA); seven loving grandchildren; Courtney Martin, Jr., C’Aniya Martin, Cortez Davis, Cordell Davis, London McTear, Quincy Martin, Jr. and Alana Martin. She also leaves to cherish her memories a host of caring nieces, nephews, relatives and extended family member Walter Harris.
The Staff of Carter Funeral Home is honored to support the Martin family with End of Life Services.
