Celebrating the life and legacy of Mrs. Doris Hope Williams Herndon, Carter Funeral Home humbly announces the transition of Mrs. Herndon on Saturday, May 21, 2022, in Montgomery, AL at the age of 81.
The Commemoration of Life will begin with a public visitation, Sunday, May 29, 2022, from 2:00 pm until 5:00 pm at Carter Funeral Home.
The Farewell Celebration at graveside will be held Monday, May 30, 2022, at 1:00 pm at the St. Paul Missionary Baptist Church of the Armstrong Community, Tuskegee, AL. Pastor Robert Wagstaff of the New Mount Calvary Baptist Church of Montgomery, AL will deliver the message of comfort.
In accordance with recommended COVID-19 Protocols, all attendees are requested to utilize appropriate facial coverings, maintain social distancing, and minimize physical contact.
Doris Hope Williams Harvey Herndon was born September 4, 1940. She was the second and only girl of three children born to the late Charlie Harvey, Jr. and Mattie Williams Harvey in Armstrong, Alabama. However, she was raised by her grandparents, the late George Sr. and Polly Williams
Doris attended and graduated from Macon County Training School, recently known as South Macon High School. She also attended Alabama State University in Montgomery, AL.
In 1961, she was united in holy matrimony to Airman Preston Josey Herndon in New Jersey. Doris was blessed with four children.
They made their home together in Nashville, Tennessee. She later relocated back to Armstrong, Alabama to care for her grandmother. Polly Williams. Doris later moved to Apex, North Carolina to become a caregiver for her mother-in-law, Lottie Herndon Page. Her mother later joined them in North Carolina.
Doris was a faithful member of St. Paul Missionary Baptist Church until she moved to Montgomery, Alabama to take care of her daughter and grandchildren.
Although Doris was a caregiver to many family members, she worked in retail for many years. Doris departed this life in Montgomery, AL on Saturday, May 21, 2022
Also preceding her in death were her husband Preston, three children, Kathy, Preston and Kawanda, her grandchild, Christopher and her two brothers, Edward Williams, and William C. Harvey
Doris leaves to cherish her precious memories a devoted son, Eric Darnell (Wendy)Herndon, Montgomery, AL, eight grandchildren, Gredonna Hope, DeMarcus, Gabrielle, Shasha, Khalid, Kadeejah LaShayee, Cassandra “Keisha” , and Eric Jr,”EJ”. sisters-in-law: Bessie Williams, Armstrong, AL and Janice Harvey, Montgomery, AL; her great-grands, nieces, nephews, and cousins, including a devoted cousin, Alice LaFaye Avery and devoted friend Irene (Patsy) Menefee.
