Carter Funeral Home announces the peaceful transition of Mrs. Annie Ruth Avery Holmes (68) of Michigan
Mrs. Holmes, a native of Union Springs, AL transitioned into eternity Tuesday, October 10, 2023,
The Commemoration of Life will begin with a public visitation, Saturday, October 28, 2023, from 2:00 pm until 5:00 pm at Carter Funeral Home.
The Farewell Celebration will be held Sunday, October 29, 2023, at 3:00 pm from the sanctuary of the St. Luke AME Church of Enon Community, Midway, AL, Rev. Cynthia Johnson, Pastor. Service will be live-streamed (see clickable links below)
Pastor Jerome Anthony, of the New Bethel Independent and Mt. Carmel Missionary Baptist Churches will deliver the message of triumph.
Interment will follow in the Pleasant Valley Baptist Cemetery, Camp Hill, AL
In accordance with recommended COVID-19 Protocols, all attendees are requested to utilize appropriate facial coverings, maintain social distancing, and minimize physical contact.
• Annie Ruth Avery Holmes, a resident of Elderado Drive Bridgeport, MI, transitioned into eternity in the late hours of October 10, 2023, in Ann Harbor, Michigan.
• Time to Live
• Annie started out on this journey called life on September 18, 1955. She was born the third bundle of joy to Betty Sellers Avery in Tuskegee, Alabama. Annie was a wife, sister, aunt, cousin, and friend. Annie R. Avery enter holy matrimony to Robert L Holmes on February 4, 1983. Annie is Godmother to Jamellah Ruth Woods of Saginaw, MI. Annie enjoyed life and she loved the Lord. She loved cooking big meals and baking desserts. Her Coconut Pineapple cake was the most famous and requested by her family. When her health began to fail, she stopped cooking big meals. Annie had a heart of gold. There was nothing she wouldn’t do to help a person she came in contact with regularly, friends & associates along with co-workers.

• Annie confessed her faith in Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior at an early age and united with Saint Luke AME Church of Midway, AL. She moved to Saginaw, Michigan in 1975 and united with Zion Baptist Church. Annie was a graduate of Bullock County High School Class of 1973. She began her employment with Columbus Mills in Union Springs, AL. After relocating to Michigan, she worked at the Pickle Factory, Home Health, Private Duty and for over 15 years with Central States Community Services where she was until her health failed.

• Annie was preceded by her mother Betty M. Avery, grandparents Exie Smith and Booker T. and Ora B Sullins, uncles Bert & James Sullins and brother Samuel Lee Avery.
• Annie leaves to cherish her precious & loving memories a devoted husband Robert L. Holmes, Saginaw, Michigan. Three loving sisters Mary Avery of Union Springs, Louisa (Eddie-deceased) Chappell Decatur, GA, Odessa Avery Goshay, Lithonia, GA, a brother Lee (Mary) Sellers. Four brothers in law and three sisters in law Kelly (Leola) Holmes, Willie Holmes, Morris (Sandra) Holmes and Margaret (Charles) Patillo all of Saginaw MI. A niece Barbara (Richard) Lane Union Springs Al who was reared with her as a sister. Other nieces and nephews, Angela Chappell, Sydney Avery, Dennis Chappell, Serena Walker, Terrance Avery, Torrence Turner, Charlena Harris, Arsenio Avery, Leontay Hurt, Brandon and Lawanda Tarver, Courtney, Corey and Devon Goshay, Rameka and Javan Avery, Antonio Kimbrough, Richard, Jr. and Romello Lane, Tracel Chappell, Calik, Precious, Makalyn, Makel, Paris, Janyla, Aiden and Kaison Avery Brooklyn and Preston Walker, Pasha Roe, Zha’Riyah and Zha’Miyah Shack and Zariyah Green along with a host of cousins, and friends. Close friends are Shuron Hughes, Cora Henderson and Barbara Woods of Saginaw MI, Avon Goshay Union Springs Al, Tangela TT Turner of Texas and Terrance Lindsay Washington DC and a host of other relatives and friends.
