Robert Lee Goodwin (35) of Gainesville, Georgia, departed this life on September 29, 2026, leaving behind a family and many loved ones who will forever cherish his memory.
Robert proudly served his country in the United States Army, enlisting in 2010 and honorably completing his active-duty service in 2014. He served as an Automated Logistical Specialist and deployed to Afghanistan from 2011 to 2012. During his service, Robert was awarded the Afghanistan Campaign Medal with two Campaign Stars, Army Commendation Medal, Army Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon, and NATO Medal. His service to his country was a meaningful part of his life, and his family will always be proud of the courage, dedication, and sacrifice he demonstrated as a United States Army soldier.
Beyond his service to his country, Robert was a man who found joy in the simple things in life. He had a deep love for animals, especially his beloved dog, Whiskey, who was a treasured companion to him. Robert enjoyed reading, drawing, and playing strategy games, finding enjoyment in activities that allowed him to use his imagination, creativity, and thoughtful nature. He appreciated living modestly and simply, never needing much in the way of material things to be content. For Robert, life was about the things that truly mattered: the people he loved, the animals he cared for, and the simple moments that brought him happiness.
Robert had a generous heart and was the kind of person who would give the shirt off his back to help someone else. He cared deeply for those around him and was always willing to lend a hand or be there when someone needed him. His quiet, unassuming nature, creativity, independence, and generous spirit made him uniquely Robert. He will be remembered not only for the life he lived and the country he served, but also for the kindness he showed to others and the love he had for the people and animals who were important to him.
Robert was preceded in death by his beloved grandparents, Bob Goodwin, James Lee, and Lyle Ericson. His family finds comfort in knowing that he is now reunited with them in heaven, where they are together again.
Robert is survived by his parents, Robert Goodwin and Connie Lee; his stepmother, Sarah Goodwin; his siblings, Kim Flaherty, Elaina Bateman, Brayden Goodwin, and Brooklynn Goodwin; and his grandparents, Trish Ericson, Mary Lee, and Ron and JeAnna Damron. He is also survived by his beloved nephews, Jesse and James Flaherty; his aunt and uncle, George and Ginair McKerrow; his best friend, Kyle Roberts; and many other beloved aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family members, and friends who will forever cherish his memory.
Though he is no longer with us, Robert's memory will live on in the hearts of everyone who knew and loved him. His life, his service, his kindness, and the simple moments that made him who he was will never be forgotten.
