Ms. LaMerles Gilliam, 76, of West Point, Georgia, transitioned on March 19, 2026, at the Wellstar West Georgia Medical Center, LaGrange, Georgia.

A Memorial Service for Ms. LaMerles Gilliam will be held on April 10, 2026, at 3:00 p.m. at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses, 275 W F Burns Drive, Valley, Alabama 36854. A detailed obituary will be provided at a later date.

The family will receive visitors at the home of Mrs. Theresia Gilliam Edmondson, 1931 22nd Avenue, SW, Lanett, Alabama 36863

A TIME TO BE BORN

LaMerles “Melus” Gilliam was born on December 29. 1949 in West Point, Georgia to Gaines Huguley and Anita Gilliam Huguley.

A TIME TO GROW

LaMerles graduated from Harrison High School in 1966. She was employed with West Point Pepperell for many years. In 1978, she dedicated her life to Jehovah God and was baptized as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses. She was a member of The Valley Congregation and was faithful until her death. Her hobbies included baking, watching college football, and sewing. As a young gifted seamstress with a great sense of style, she delighted in making sure her niece and nephew, looked just as sharp as she and her sons did, at times crafting beautiful matching outfits for them all to wear to conventions. LaMerlesreally enjoyed dancing, especially demonstrating the “two-step” with her sister. From an early age, she loved babies and children, and they were always drawn to her, but she enjoyed and loved none more than her own two sons. Next to Jehovah, nothing was more important to her than her family. She worked hard to provide enjoyment for them all, often taking the whole family on vacations until she retired.

LaMerles fell asleep in death on March 19, 2026 at WellstarWest Georgia Medical Center, La Grange. Georgia. She was preceded in death by her father, Gaines Huguley, and her mother, Anita Huguley.

LaMerles leaves to cherish her memory, two sons, McKenzie Phillips, Decatur, GA and Donovan Phillips, West Point, GA; one sister, Theresia Edmondson, Lanett, AL; two nieces, Marla Edmondson, Lanett, AL and Mattie Sue Govan, West Point, GA; one nephew, Pataski (Jutico) Edmondson, Atlanta, GA; two great-nephews, Raphael Brooks and Omari (Latavia) Edmondson; one great-great-nephew, Malachi Edmondson; and a host of other relatives and dear friends whom she loved dearly.
