He transitioned into eternity Monday,February 20,2017 at his residence.
Celebration of Life Services will be held Saturday,March 4,2017 at 1:00 pm from the sanctuary of the St. Mark Baptist Church of Fort Davis,Alabama.
Words of comfort will be delivered by the pastor,Rev. Bobby Driscoll.
Interment with military honors will follow in the St Mark Baptist Cemetery.
Deacon Calhoun will lie in repose at the church,one hour prior to Celebration of Life Services.
Visitation for family and friends will be Friday, March 3,2017 from 2:00 pm to 7:00 pm at Carter Funeral Home.
Deacon Calhoun was born to the late Henry and Willie M. Calhoun on September 25, 1919. He attended school in Macon County. He also worked for Macon County School System as a Bus Driver and at the VA Hospital for many years until his retirement. A World War II Veteran, Deacon Calhoun, also served on the Deacon Board at St. Mark Baptist Church for many years until his health failed. Deacon Calhoun sung with the St. Mark Travelling Four. His demise came abruptly on Monday, February 20, 2017.
Family members preceded him in death were: his wife, Ruby Calhoun, five sisters and five brothers.
Deacon Calhoun leaves to cherish his memories: a loving and devoted daughter, Beverly Calhoun; three devoted grandchildren, Shashekka and Ruby Calhoun and Jonathan Williams; one great-grandson, Jermaine Hill; three sisters, Essie Calhoun, Tuskegee, AL, Bessie Walker, Trenton, NY and Willie Mae Williams, Montgomery, AL; five sisters-inlaw, Inez Huffman, Atlanta, GA, Carrie Bush, Catherine Gaddis (Robert), all of Rochester, NY, Marie Dowdell (Larry), Tuskegee, AL and Betty Williams (Alonzo), Apopka, FL; two devoted nephews, Elbert Calhoun (Patricia) and Fadale Ellington (Terry) M. Maryland; affectionate friends and loving caregivers, Larry Dowdell, Mozell Bytrs, Deneen Youngblood, Brenda Smith, Mary Fitzpatrick, Valerie Bytrs, Kedia Davis, Fannie, Dana, Thelma, Samuel, Clarence and Earnest Woods; God-grandchildren, Jimauris, Jimyah, Ashley, Tiffany, StarQuasia, Kwanda, Deandre, Roshinque and Lynn; and a special thanks to Mary Spann and Family.
