Obituary For Peggy Mitchum Camp

Peggy Mitchum Camp,87, passed away peacefully on September 15, 2019.

Graveside services will be held at Fredonia Methodist Church, Fredonia Alabama on Tuesday, September 17, 2019 at 11:00 am EDT.

She was born in Lanett, Alabama on August 6, 1932. She graduated from Lanett High School with honors and worked as a bank teller through her 20’s.

Peggy married James O. Camp on July 30 1961, and in 1962 they moved to Gardendale, Alabama, where they raised three sons: the eldest Donald, and twins Mark and Mitch. They were married almost 35 years when James passed away in 1996. After James’ death, Peggy lived in their home in Gardendale until 2013. Since then she has lived closer to her sons in South Alabama and Atlanta.

Peggy devoted her time and energy to create a welcoming, nurturing home. Joyful and determined, she cared for her family with the love of a mother, the mind of an accountant, and the skill of a chef. Fried apple pies, homemade bread, oatmeal cookies, muscadine jelly, elaborately decorated cakes, and a variety of other treats not only were found on her kitchen table, but also found their way to her friends, neighbors, her church (Gardendale-Mt. Vernon United Methodist Church), and to those who were ill or homebound.

Peggy is survived by her three sons and extended family members.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be given to Gardendale-Mt. Vernon United Methodist Church, Fredonia United Methodist Church, or a charity of your choice. The family wishes to thank those who cared for her from Heartland Hospice and Sunrise Assisted Living.
