Obituary For Patricia Lucas Lewis

It is with great sadness that the family of Patricia Lucas Lewis announces her passing after a courageous battle with cancer on August 28, 2019, at age of 85 years.

Known fondly to family and friends as Pat, Trish, Grandma Trish, or simply Mama, she was born June 22, 1934 to Pauline and George Lucas.

Patricia graduated from nursing school at the Medical College of Georgia in 1954. It was there that she met her husband Dr. Earle Lewis. After his death she returned to school obtaining a Bachelors in Hospital Administration. For the better part of 50 years Patricia worked in various capacities in the nursing profession including at hospitals in LaGrange, Newnan, and Franklin. Patricia still worked as a nurse until a short time ago when her health would not permit it.

Patricia was very active throughout her life and was known for her love of animals of all types but in particular horses. She also enjoyed playing bridge and flower arranging for her church, St Mark’s. Her friends and family, both near and extended, were very dear to her and a big part of her life. She was a strong and courageous woman.

Patricia was preceded in death by her husband Dr. Earle Lewis, a baby son Patrick, her parents and her two dear sisters. She is survived by daughters Theresa Cardoso and Betty Jane Lewis and her sons George (Ruth), John (Lori), and Tim as well as grandchildren Katherine Roesch, Emily Lewis, Sarah Lewis, Kelsey Cardoso, Justin Lewis, Brandi Ferguson, and Great-grandchildren Cameron Ferguson and Charlotte Roesch as well as numerous nieces and nephews and brother-in-law Thomas Gibbs.

The funeral service will be held at St. Mark’s Episcopal Church 207 N. Greenwood Street, LaGrange on Saturday, September 21st at 2 pm with Rev. Alan Pruitt presiding.

Memorial donations in memory of Patricia can be made to St. Mark’s Memorial Fund or an animal rescue fund of your choice.

My deepest sympathy to the family. Patricia was a very kind, caring and a true southern lady that had the most beautiful southern voice ever! She will be missed!

I have so many memories. I was fortunate to become friends with BJ in 1982 when I switched schools. I have known mom since then. She was such a sweet lady with a big heart. She loved her family and fur kids so much. She will be missed.

Aunt Trisha was an inspiration to me and I cherished her. Her presence filled a room with light and levity! True treasures - memories of long talks over sweet tea or wine and a seasonal dessert, keeping up with the many adventures with the horses and little pets especially Sweetie, Schotzy or Bubba, visiting Warm Springs or Callaway Gardens, and just hanging out reminiscing or discussing a new book. Aunt Trisha you have made a difference in my life and so many others- you are loved and missed!

Please accept my deepest condolences. Sincerely, Loraine Crenshaw (Wellstar West Georgia Hospice)
