Obituary For Ms. Lartha Downes

MGySgt Lartha J Downes, a resident of LaGrange, GA, died Thursday, June 27, 2019 at her residence.

Funeral Services are scheduled for Saturday, July 6, 2019 at 1:00 p.m. (EST) from Living By Faith Worship Center, LaGrange, GA with Bishop Donald Lancaster officiating.

Interment Services with Military Honors are scheduled for Tuesday, July 9, 2019 at 1:00 p.m. at Fort Mitchell National Cemetery, Fort Mitchell, AL. Davis Memorial Mortuary of Valley directing.

Public Viewing is scheduled for Saturday, July 6, 2019 from 12:00 p.m. until Funeral Hour at the church.

Master Gunnery Sergeant Lartha Jean Downes, USMC (Ret)

MGySgt (E9) Lartha Jean “Gina” Jackson Downes was born February 1, 1957 to Harold J. and Theresa Thomas Jackson, Sr. In 1981 she joined the United States Marine Corps and was assigned to Marine Corps Base Camp in Paris Island, South Carolina. After completion of basic training, she served at several duty stations on state side and finished her military career in Okinawa, Japan, where she resided for years before returning to the United States in 2014. A retired veteran of the United States Marine Corps (USMC), she served from 1981 to 2007, a total of 26 years. While serving in the USMC, she received various medals and ribbons.

MGySgt Downes was a brave and loyal marine as well as a patient and loving mom, daughter, sister and aunt. She supported many Ministries with seed offerings. She received her Bachelor’s degree in Business Management.

She was preceded in death by: her father; her daughter, Tiawan Moore; and, four siblings, Tony E. Jackson, USN, Harold J. Jackson, Jr., USN, Tyrone A. Jackson, USMC and Ronald Jackson. MGySgt Lartha J. Downes departed this life at her LaGrange, Georgia home on Thursday, June 27, 2019.

Her memories will be cherished by: one son, Samuel Hill, USN; one daughter, Tiara Rials, USAF; grandchildren, Jalen Alexander, Kennedy Moore, Kelsey Moore, Micah Hill and Amalia Delmar Bector; her mother, Theresa T. Jackson; five siblings, Paula J. (Earl) Williams, Brenda Jackson, Royce (Edward) Carter, Terrence (Kimberly) Jackson and Michelene (Samuel) Elmore, USA, Retired; one aunt; and, a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
