Malinda was educated in the Lanett City Schools, having begun her public school tenure at the former Lanier High School and graduating from Lanett High School in the Class of 1981. Early on, Malinda’s charming personality, beautiful smile and kindred spirit proved to strangers that she was a Child of the Living God. She confessed Christ as her personal Savior and united with the church of her father’s family, Mitchell Springs United Methodist Church in Lanett, Alabama. Malinda served her church faithfully as both a child and an adult. She was serving as the Church Treasurer at the time of her death.
Upon completion of her secondary school education, Malinda enrolled at West Georgia Technical School in LaGrange, Georgia. She completed a job training program in Cosmetology. This training prepared her and her sister Janice to assume ownership and operation of Potts Beauty Shop #2 in Lanett, Alabama – a business started by her aunt, Hannah and her mother, Louisa in the 1940’s. A selfless person, Malinda was caring, nurturing and an excellent cake baker—often sharing her cakes with the sick and elderly. Malinda was hard working and a loving mother.
On Sunday, May 19, 2019, Malinda was transferred from the church terrestrial to the church celestial to abide in the presence of God. Her home going leaves us saddened, but our faith in God remains steadfast and unmovable. Malinda leaves to cherish her precious memories: three children, Jajie White, Israel White, Joshua White and their father, Darryl White; a very special sister, Janice Burton; siblings, Doretha Heard and Henry T. Burton; aunts, Hannah Boyd and Louisiana Potts; special nieces, Vivian Ward, Valerie Burton and Vickie Mark; sisters and brothers in love, Arthur Perry, Reginald Wright, Marcelleus Potts, Arthur (Desiree) Potts, Gloria Wright, Brenda Potts, Gary (Brenda) Wright, Zonnie Henderson, Frank (Shirley) Wright and Charlene Patton; special cousins, Shannon Boyd, JoQuell Boyd, Shalanda Wright, Mary Reese, Varis Evans and Kamla Sandiford; god-sister, Betty Boyd; god-daughter, Emilee Young; supporting friend, Sammie L.
