Obituary For George Calvin Rutland

George Calvin Rutland, 92, of Lanett, AL passed away on May 12, 2019 at Bill Nichols State Veterans Home in Alex City, Alabama. George was born September 18, 1926 in Chambers County Alabama to the late George Wade and Lenora Wright Rutland.

He was an army veteran serving proudly in World War II in the Asiatic Pacific on Luzon, Philippines and the occupation of Japan. George was the owner and operator of R&H Welding and later Rutland’s Welding Supply in West Point Georgia from 1955-1987. After retiring he helped others with building projects and enjoyed woodworking. If you could describe it, he could make it.

George was a member of Plant City Baptist Church, having been very active in church since 1952. Over the years he served as deacon, Sunday School superintendent, teacher and Training Union Director.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife of 54 years, Frances Stroud Rutland; sisters Verbice R. Crumpton, Vivian R. Thompson, brother Perry Rutland, niece Karen C. Lowman and stepdaughter Pam W. Williamson.

George is survived by his wife Rochelle Williams Rutland of LaGrange, GA.; daughters Carol R. (Tom) Bennett of Cary NC., Arlene R (Leon) Weathers, of Lanett, AL; Joan R (Byrd) Worthy, Lanett, AL and Jane R. (Manuel) Rodriguez of Corpus Christi, TX; stepdaughter Paula W. (Jerry) Knight of LaGrange, GA and stepson Joey (Janelle) Williams of Galveston, TX and step son in law Larry Williamson of LaGrange, GA; grandchildren Russell Worthy, Lanett, AL, Meagan Rodriguez (Jeff) Kidneigh of Aransas Pass, TX , and Zachary Bennett of Wilmington, NC; great grandchildren Jazz and Abriannah Worthy of Lanett, Alabama, and Dane Kidneigh of Aransas Pass, TX.

The family will receive visitors at Bluffton Funeral Services in Lanett AL on Wednesday May 15, 2019 at 1:00 pm EDT followed by the Funeral Service at 2:00 pm EDT also at Bluffton Funeral Services. Graveside Service will follow at Marseilles Cemetery in West Point Georgia. Reverends Brad Reed and John Samanie will officiate.

In lieu of flowers the family asks that contributions be made to Plant City Baptist Church, the Cancer Society, Hospice or a favorite charity.
