Mattie L Morgan (nee’ White) was born in Union Springs, Alabama, Thompson community, on June 6, 1938. She passed away with family by her side on April 7, 2019 in Rochester, New York, after bravely battling lung cancer.

Mattie, fondly called Baby Do, lived in Union Springs until approximately 1963, after which time she migrated to Geneseo, New York where she met and married Leroy Morgan. She was later employed by Boise Cascade and retired after 20 years. She migrated back to Union Springs in order to take care of her aging mother, Ida Cannon.

It was while taking care of her mother in Union Springs that Mattie decided to pursue a career in health care. Mattie became a Certified Home Health Aide (CHHA) in the State of Alabama and worked in that capacity for 7 years. She was active in her Church and participated in programs at various churches; her passions were reciting poetry and singing.

Mattie’s health began to deteriorate and she returned to Rochester in January 2019 to be with her children. Her health rapidly declined and she went to rest.

Mattie is predeceased by her eldest daughter Shirley A. Hardy, and her eldest grandson Yohancee Hardy. She is survived by her sisters, Rosie M Scott, Mozella (Martis) Penn, her brother JC White, and her children, Linda (Kenneth) Cadogan, Gwendolyn White, Mary Nita White, Kenieth (Debra) Morgan and Zachary Morgan. She is survived by 7 grandchildren, 10 great-grand children, a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and special friends.

The Staff of Carter Funeral Home is honored to support the Morgan family with End of Life Services.
