Mr. Adolphus Leon "Rock Rock" Gooden, a resident of Valley, AL, died Saturday, May 23, 2026 at Tuskegee Veterans Administration Nursing Home, Tuskegee, AL.
Funeral Services are scheduled for Thursday, May 28, 2026 at 10:00 A.M. (EST) from Mt. Nebo Baptist Church, 5231 County Road 389, Cusseta, AL, Rev. Travis Floyd, Pastor/Officiant and Rev. Bradley A. Gibson, Sr., Eulogist.
Interment with Military Honors will follow in Ft. Mitchell National Cemetery, 553 AL Hwy 165, Ft. Mitchell, AL. Davis Memorial Mortuary of Valley directing.
Public Viewing is scheduled for Wednesday, May 27, 2026 from 3:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. (EST) from Davis Memorial Mortuary Chapel.

Adolphus Leon Gooden, lovingly known as “Rock Rock” by his family and friends, was born November 4, 1955 in Macon County to the late Ida Mae Gooden and Dezzie Truitt. He peacefully departed this life on Saturday, May 23, 2026, at the Tuskegee Veterans Administration Nursing Home in Tuskegee.
At an early age, Rock accepted Christ as his Lord and Savior and became a member of Mt. Nebo Missionary Baptist Church. Throughout his life, he continued his walk of faith and also attended Sweet Hope C.M.E. and Evergreen Missionary Baptist Church. His faith and spiritual foundation remained an important part of his life.
Rock was a devoted husband to his loving wife, Marie Presley Gooden, and a caring father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend. He was deeply loved by his family and respected by all who knew him. His presence brought strength, laughter, wisdom, and encouragement to those around him.
He attended and graduated from Valley High School in 1974. Following graduation, he proudly enlisted in the United States Army, where he honorably served his country with dedication and pride.
After his military service, Rock worked faithfully as a brick mason for many years. He was known for his strong work ethic, skilled craftsmanship, and willingness to help others. Through his hands, he helped build and shape many structures and left behind a legacy of hard work and perseverance. He continued in his trade until his health began to decline.
Rock was preceded in death by his parents, Ida Mae Gooden and Dezzie Truitt; his sisters, Mae Rosie Gooden, Willie Mae Gibson, Mary Liza Gooden, Leozella Gooden, and Cleozella Glaze; and his brothers, John Lewis Gooden, Arthur Gooden, and John Wesley Gooden.
Rock will be remembered for his quiet strength, his love for family, and the lasting impact he made on everyone blessed to know him. His memory will forever live on in the hearts of his loved ones and friends.
He leaves to cherish his memory his loving wife, Marie Presley Gooden; his daughter, Yashica (Johnny) Avery Bradford; a very special granddaughter, Shontae McCants, whose love and presence brought him much joy; bonus children: Cynthia (Phillip) Jelks, Wilbert McCants, Richard McCants, Katrina White, Marty McCants, and Stephanie Coverson, his siblings, George Gooden, Minnie L. Gates, Claudia Virginia Murphy, Daniel Gooden, a very special nephew/brother, Rev. Irvin (Christine) Gibson; two very special grandsons, Eric Glenn and Massen Vaughn; his in-laws, Betty Jean Gooden, Gail Smith, Jacqueline Presley, Sadie Gresham, Catherine Blunt, Mary James, and Johnny Presley; along with grandchildren: Tel’neschia Jones, Yasmeen Dardy, Jasmine Dardy, Yakera Dardy, Erynn Dardy, and Steven Avery; great-grandchildren, extended family, devoted friends, and all whose lives he touched throughout his journey.
