Gary Cecil Vaughn (June 6, 1945) of Lanett died peacefully at his home on May 16, 2026.

A memorial service is planned for Tuesday, May 19th at 2 PM EST at 1st Christian Church in Lanett.

Visitation will be on Monday, May 18th, from 5 to 7 PM EST at Valley Point Funeral Home in Lanett.

He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Brenda Smith Vaughn, and 2 sons. Jason Vaughn (Gloria Perry Vaughn) of Dallas, Ga and Zachary Vaughn (Jessica Barlow Vaughn) of Petal, Mississippi. He is also survived by his direct grandchildren, Emma (Dallas, Ga), Jackson, and Katherine (both of Petal, MS); as well as his 3 adoptive grandchildren Amanda Bingham, Marc Perry, and Austin Perry, and five great grandchildren all of the metro Atlanta area.

He was the son of the late Cecil and Edna Vaughn, and older brother to the late James “Jimmy” Vaughn. His youngest brother Stephen resides in Millerville, Ala.

Gary was employed as vice president of Thompson Insurance Enterprises of Atlanta from 1985 until his retirement in 2007. He was an avid bass fisherman and golfer, active in politics, enjoyed all things Alabama especially Alabama football. Mostly he was proud to call Lanett his home.

He was surrounded by friends and family at the time of his passing, served as a motivation and inspiration to numerous people, and his stories and humor will be missed by many.
