Reverend Joe Willie Dunn, Sr., 80, of Valley, Alabama transitioned on March 24, 2026 at the Bethany House, Auburn, Alabama.
Funeral Services for Reverend Joe Willie Dunn, Sr., will be held on Tuesday, March 31, 2026 at 1:00 p.m. EST in the sanctuary of Evergreen Missionary Baptist Church, 301 Evergreen Avenue, Valley, Alabama 36854. Reverend Frankie L. Hutchinson, Sr., Pastor, Eulogist and Reverend Willie G. Wimberly, Officiating.
Interment will follow in the Pinehill Cemetery, 2167 22nd Street, SW, Lanett, Alabama 36863.
Public viewing will be held on Monday, March 30, 2026, from 2:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. at the M.W. Lee Mortuary.
“For I am now ready to be offered, and the time of my departure is at hand. Reverend Joe Willie Dunn, Sr., son of the late Mr. Joe Wessley Dunn and Thelma Billingslea, was born August 27, 1945, in Chambers County, Alabama
He confessed Christ at an early age and united with Evergreen Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Reverend N.H. Carr. He served faithfully as Sunday School Superintendent and Deacon.
Joe was a 1963 graduate of Rehobeth High School, Valley, Alabama.
He worked at Lanier VA Hospital. He served in the U.S. Army 19 years in Vietnam.
Joe was united in holy matrimony to the late Lula Mae Autry Dunn, and to this union one son, Joe Dunn, Jr. and one daughter, Libby Dunn-Hayes were born.
Deacon Joe Willie Dunn, Sr., felt the call of God upon his life to preach the Gospel, and he yielded to that call. He was licensed to preach under the leadership of Reverend Willie V. Orr.
Reverend Dunn understood the significance of expanding his evangelism.
He was preceded in death by his wife; sisters, Joann Bell and Rose Lee Dunn; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law.
He leaves to cherish his precious memory; son, Joe (Wanda) Dunn; daughter, Libby (Donald) Hayes; grandchildren, Mia Menefield, Ross Hayes and Nolan Hayes; great-grandchildren, Jaiden Menefield and Bailee Hurston; sister, Mary Ann Crim; sisters-in-law; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
