Funeral Services for Ms. Sarah Jane Harris Cofield will be held on
Saturday, January 31, 2026 at 12:00 Noon EST. in the sanctuary of Mt.
Hermon Baptist Church, 1601 Magnolia Road, Lanett, Alabama 36863.
Rev. Frankie Hutchinson, Officiating. Justin Freeman, Pastor, Eulogist.
Interment
will be held in the Pinehill Cemetery, 2235 22nd Avenue, SW, Lanett,
Alabama 36863.
Public viewing will be held on Friday, January 30, 2026 from 2:00 p.m.
until 6:00 p.m. at the M. W. Lee Mortuary.
Sarah Jane Harris Cofield was the second child born to late Gloster James and Erma Ruth Harris on December 18, 1948, in Langdale, Alabama.
She entered eternal rest on Thursday, January 22, 2026, at East Alabama Medical Center, Opelika, Alabama.
Sarah Jane was a 1966 graduate of Rehobeth High School.
She joined Mt. Hermon Baptist Church at an early age.
Sarah Jane was known for her vibrant spirit, her fierce love and protection of her family, and her ability to light up any room she entered. She loved to have a good time and was often the life of any environment she entered.
Sarah Jane was a loving mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, friend and caretaker. She nurtured with patience, corrected with wisdom, and loved with her whole heart. Her home was a place of care, her words carried strength, and her presence brought life to any environment she entered. She leaves behind a legacy of unconditional love, laughter, and family unity that will endure generations.
From childhood through adulthood, Sarah Jane’s life was enriched by the close bond she shared with her brothers and sisters. As her first playmates and lifelong companions, they walked beside her through seasons of joy, challenge, and faith, sharing memories and moments that helped shape the woman she became. Sarah Jane was preceded in death by her parents and beloved siblings, Gloster J. Harris, Jr., Michael L. Harris, Hilda Harris Patten and two adopted sisters, Sylvia Gibson and Verna June Adams.
Sarah Jane was a loyal and devoted mother of (three) amazing children who will forever cherish many beautiful memories of her life. The eternal love, laughter, joyous times and family unity will be remembered by Elder Robert (Gwendolyn) Brock Jr., Hogansville, Georgia, Zaneta (Arthur Lovelace) Brock, Lanett, Alabama, Dean (Stephanie) Brock, Cusseta, Alabama; grandchildren, Brenton M. Brock, Washington, DC, Shakendra S. Brock, Atlanta, Georgia, Shalicia Z. Brock, Valley, Alabama, Afton T. (Jordon) Jones, Tacoma, Washington, Kennedy Silmon, Auburn, Alabama, Jordan H. Brock, Hogansville, Georgia, E’Miya Moore, O’Khari Moore, Cusseta, Alabama. She also leaves two beloved great-grandchildren, Tremaine Newton, Jr. and Jordon Jones, Jr., both of Tacoma, Washington, who were her pride and joy. One who she adopted as her own son, Elder Lorenzo (Geri) Gonzalez.
Her remaining siblings whom she loved, Gwendolyn Harris-Brooks, Phyllis Morgan, Anthony B. Harris, all of Lanett, Alabama, Delores (Louis) Clemonts, Greenville, Georgia, and Ruthie (James) Jones, Cartersville, Georgia. Sarah Jane extended her heart beyond bloodlines. She lovingly cared for and cherished Ruth (Tyrel) Hekendorf and Nicolas Gunter as her own.
She leaves numerous nieces and nephews with wonderful memories and lifelong lessons from their Auntie who left a lasting impression with every moment that they spent together. A village of cousins, extended family and friends shall forever recall eternal joyous occasions spent with Sarah Jane as well.
Through each life she touched, Sarah Jane Harris Cofield’s spirit endures, her prayers still covering, her lessons still guiding, and her love continuing to TESTIFY.
